I'm testing on Saturday - the paper based half - at Duksung Women's University... can anyone tell me how to get there? I can't find it on a map. I even have the address, but still can't seem to locate it.

Duksung Women's University
Pyungsaeng Gyoyook Won (I have no idea what this means... but they wrote it on my admissions ticket!)
114 Unni-dong Chongno-ku Seoul 110-350

I'll probably just ask one of my Korean friends to look it up for me tomorrow, but if anyone has already located the general whereabouts or subway stop+exit, that info would be much appreciated.

PS If anyone else is testing make sure to bring old school pencils... mechanical pencils aren't allowed! Good luck!

It's at Anguk Station, the same one that you'd take if you went to Insadong.
I'm not sure what exit # it is, but if you go out the same exit that heads towards Insadong, turn around. Stay on that side of the street, but walk away from the area. At the next crosswalk, hang a right, it's on the left side of the street after a temple or small palace.

Also, they kind of ignore the mechanical pencil rule..

Has anyone seen any GRE prep courses in Seoul that are for Koreans fluent in English and foreigners who want to take the test? I feel any prep course I take here would be doubling as an ESL class. I just want to learn the math again.

Did anyone here write the PBT at Duksung Women's University on June 6, 2009? I'm freaking out cuz the test results were supposed to be mailed out like 2 weeks ago and I still haven't received mine. Did anyone receive their score yet?

Came across this old thread while trying to figure out just where this was (I'm taking the general GRE this Saturday, and the physics GRE on Nov 7). I emailed the Prometric center for directions, and this was the map they gave me, along with these instructions:
If you want to go to Duksung Womens Univ Pyungsaeng Gyoyook Won (덕성여대 평생 교육원), take subway Line 3 to Anguk station (안국 역), then take exit 4.
Go straight and past the Unhyungung.

I don't know what specific building to look for, but I guess this narrows it down. I just thought I'd post this here for future reference, if anyone else is ever looking for it.

I just wanted to add some clarifying remarks to the post above in hopes of helping any GRE takers who come after me.

The little map provided in the post above is helpful as long as you realize that the building you're looking for is still within the walls of the palace complex you walk past. If you go past the end of the walled enclosure you've gone too far.

Go past the main entrance to the palace/temple complex and you'll see some more modern looking buildings through another entrance that leads into a park.

There are several buildings back there and there should be signs to help you. Just continue to walk through the park until you see postings listing your name and what room you should go to. It's right next to the building.

I hope that helps.

Hello!

I realize this is a bit of a dead thread, but I'd love to hear from someone who can answer my questions about taking the GRE in Korea. I accepted a job in Seoul and will leave the US in a month. My plan is to apply to grad school from Korea and before I do so, I will need to take the GRE. Ideally I'd like to take the exam in Korea when the test date rolls around in October, rather than trying to cram it in the next month before I go.

Based on this thread it doesn't seem like it's too complicated. The main thing I am worried about is the actual test date. I will be teaching and I do not want to have to ask for a random day off in the first few months of teaching to go take a test. Does anyone know if you can take the first portion of the exam on a Saturday? Are the test dates fixed? Based on the dates provided on the GRE website from last year the written portion is scheduled on a Saturday, but what about the first computerized section, does anyone know?

Additionally, any other helpful information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The computerized is held Mon-Fri, I think. I know that I used one of the days I had off for Cheosok to take it, which happened to fall on a Tuesday. Hopefully, you'll be able to use a day they've already given you off.

Yeah, there are 4 time slots everyday Mon-Fri when you can take the computer portion. Just keep in mind that the deadline to take the computer portion of the test is about a month before you take the written part.

I just took the GRE last week- June 11. That is the last available time in Korea to take the old GRE. When the new one comes in August I think it will be available more frequently.

As a WARNING.... the test was extremely unorganized and a lot of westerners left annoyed if not a bit angry. The proctors didn't speak loud enough and didn't make it clear when we stopped filling information out and actually started the test. About half the room lost at least two minutes. This is how it was for every section- he quietly said go and only the people near him heard it. Most people started once they realized others had begun. One rather vocal guy in the back was quite angry, he lost almost a full five minutes in the first section, as did a lot of people in the back.

In addition, they asked us for ID while we were taking the exam (they had already checked it but they wanted to check it again). That was especially frustrating for people who had their passports in their bag. Another minute lost.

Finally... people went back to previous sections (they weren't really watching), and used mechanical pencils, and ate and drank.

Essentially, almost all the rules we're used to with taking standardized tests in the US were ignored.

It was an interesting experience. After the fact it's rather funny.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about with the Mon-Fri stuff? I just went to ETS website, signed up for the general GRE, the new computer based version to take on November 5th (Sat) at Korea University. Seemed a completely simple process overall.
