Exactly. exactly.

If it only costs $100 to stab someone I'd probably have filled up a whole hospital ward by now with ignorant neighbours and rude drivers.

This has worked so well that a comparison between a colonized people (Native Canadians) in their land (Canada) is made with a colonizing people (muslim immigrants) in the land they are colonizing (UK). Brilliant!
While I understand your point, it seems like you're playing pretty fast and loose with the term "colonize".

I think the main goal of any adjudication is for the victim/victim's family to feel justice has been done. If they are involved in establishing compensation or punishment, how is that a bad thing? That is one reason why I appreciate minority court systems; they do a better job at involving the appropriate parties. Personally, I don't think that involving society in a judgment does one thing to resolve OR rectify the situation.

Do I think sharia courts would be divisive? Dangerous? A bad idea? Well, yeah kinda. If I could see a legal system (in the UK or Canada) that would provide victim's with a sense of justice, then these minority courts wouldn't even be an issue.

I understand how everyone should be subject to the same law but why should everyone be subject to the same punishment?

I'm such a terrible writer. Sorry. it's too early for me right now.

The system of compensation may be quite alrite between agreeing individuals. The problem is although one guy's a hundred bucks richer and willing to settle with that....

Sure, that might be a problem. My point wasn't that this was a good way to solve legal disputes, just that it might be perfectly legal under longstanding laws in the UK. This was meant in reply to Mises' suggestion that Muslims were somehow getting special treatment.

The amount of money in the example isn't really important. Imagine a couple of thousand bucks, if that seems more plausible to you. Though a lot would probably depend on how much the victim could reasonably expect to get from the particular assailant.

Kuros:

Thanks for the information about American law.
