| Been there once (for a few months in the late 80s - Vancouver area). But yes, based on teachers I've worked with over the years... To be honest it's Canadian females abroad who often annoy me (with their 'politcally correct' issue never turned off). Maybe I've just met the wrong ones...! |

God people, take things a little less seriously. I'm always amazed at how quickly the p.c. brigade jumps on things on this board.
I read the original post and and it made me smirk, as I (like everyone else) have had to smile politely as I'm told about "Korea number 1" etc..
I think the poster was perhaps letting off a little steam on the issue, someting I'll admit to frequently doing in similar cirsumstances. |
Agreed. Cut the guy some slack. Seems as though a few of you have a vendetta against the OP. |

| I guess you could, if you're in a particularly nasty mood, tell them Pocari Sweat is Japanese. |
Yes. tell them a drink most of them find disgusting anyway is from Japan. That'd break their little hearts.

| Are you sure you're right about Lotteria? I thought the whole Lotte empire was originally Korean, but later became headquartered in Japan, or something like that. Maybe somebody could set us straight on that.... |
From what I've gathered, Lotte is 100% Japanese (oh god! having flashbacks of the ROTK thread. MUST SIT DOWN). It is owned by a Korean man who has lived in Japan all his life and is a Japanese citizen.
Of course, many of my students were surprised to learn that McDonald's is not, in fact, Korean. That really was quite heartbreaking to a few of them.

The OP is free to talk about Korean products, just I interject Samsung is becoming very world class, and it shouldn't be in that list.
I am surprised (maybe I missed it) that Korean beers wouldn't be in that list...they taste like urine, and no one from outside Korea would EVER buy it.
(Oh and btw I am not a Samsung lacky, but I do have an interest in business/commerce and I have read quite a lot on Samsung and how far they have come in the last ten years...they are definately Korean's brightest star when it comes to international corporations.) |

| I find these "retorts" a bit childish. I mean, we're supposed to be the adults, aren't we? A teacher gets frustrated with a student, so the teacher goes into Korea-bashing mode? If I were the student, I wouldn't feel put in my place by that at all, but I would immediately realize that I'm more mature than the teacher, that's for sure. |
