If you want free software, then take free software. The alternative is to pay billionaires more money. |
Not all of the people you are stealing from are billionaires. I think only 1 or 2 people at Microsoft are billionaires--the vast majority of people employed at Microsoft make a wage like you make. Hope you're proud of being a thief! |

Yeah Eamo. Take it back now and say sorry. |

I've just mailed Microsoft a cheque for $3000. That should cover everything. Oh, the shame and guilt!!! How can I live with it??!!!
Bryan, I believe Microsoft has created several thousand millionaires. All the guys who worked for MS in the early '80's bought shares back then and have raked in the cash since.
I guess I'm wired differently from you, because I can live ever so happily with stealing software. The thought of handing over $299 for Vista Ultimate just makes my head spin. |

With regards to trackmenot and data collection about our searches and privacy issues. I search out stuff. I'm not the only one searching out stuff. Each website I may go to already has like thousands or hundreds of thousands of others been there, too. I don't know. Privacy to me means that it affects me and maybe a few others. Does being part of a huge amount of people mean my privacy was violated?
Anyway, I kind of like the idea of a hiding/blurring function of my search stuff. I find though that some of these programs that we install come with their own set of issues. |

Yes. The amount of people that data was collected on has no relevance to it being done or not. One or one million; is there really a difference? |

| Is there a decent free anti-virus out there? My current one is up for renewal and I'd rather not pay if a free alternative is out there. |

Firefox (although the latest version and updates are crashing a lot)
Avast or Avira (still testing Avira)
TrueCrypt
DVD Shrink (yeah, it's old, but still useful)
Open Office (I don't use it much, but it's there, and it's great) |

I used Avast for years, and it does well, however, I wanted something that would scan by itself, so I am testing Avira. It seems OK, but you have to turn off all of the scan notices and update notices to run silently. It has a splash screen that pops up once a day maybe, but you can disable that using some tricks from the web.
Still testing it out. I miss Avast's light firewall. |
