To all the hypocrites,

Some of you folks complain when contracts are not followed to the letter, and the employer tries to make changes or ignores details to save him money. However, when the contract is being followed, is it not hypocritical to complain because something is not in the contract?

The OP's contract was being followed, and now he wants it to include something that it did not originally (precisely because he has gained knowledge). Employers are no different. When an employer gains knowledge of their employee (i.e. that they can't teach their way out of a paper box) the employer may attempt to change the contract after the fact to avoid paying for something that he feels the employee does not deserve.

How is the OPs situation any different? The employee feels that he is entitled to something after the fact from the knowledge that he has gained, as do many employers.

Do you want things both ways?

If you want and expect your contracts to be followed, the OP should offend your sense of reason. However, if you are a hypocrite, you will support such action.

Pity.

What hypocrisy?
Read the thread again Austin.
The OP asked about severance pay.
He got answers.
Is he entitled to it?
It certainly sounds like he is.
Ever heard the expression "ignorance of the law is no excuse?"
Now read my post.
You know, if I were a lawyer I'd say it almost sounds like you are encouraging someone to break the law- Korean labor law clearly states that severance pay cannot be waived by either party.

Immigration has nothing to do with contract disputes, that's the authority of the labour board. Asking for their help is like asking a pizza place to deliver you a digital camera. It's just not what they do.
