I don't understand why NBC barely ever shows Olympic events LIVE

CBC here runs it pratically 24 hours. I flicked over to NBC and they're running Meet the Press. I think NBC does have to make a business decision. How many letters of complaint do they get when they interrupt Days of Our Lives to broadcast news about a shuttle disaster or the attempted assassination of Reagan. Americans who are at home at 2 pm watching TV don't want to watch such things. They've long made their voice heard.

I think that really sucks. Maybe, the US needs more public television like Europe and Canada if NBC can't behave responsibly. I am always a supporter of strengthening PBS.

How about the fact that you can only watch the NBC video online if you have Vista or an Intel-only Mac. What kind of crap is this? Hmm...not only should we threaten every website that may have clips of the opening ceremony with a copyright infringement claim, and prevent viewers in different countries from accessing broadcasts from other countries, but we will also not allow you to watch the Olympics if you do not buy our crappy sponsor's (i.e., Microsoft's) product.

How depressing it was to see all the hype to only later see a few minutes of the opening ceremony from a broadcast in some eastern European language. The Olympics are crap. NBC is crap. This is outrageous.

As it turns out it was a good marketing strategy by NBC. They had some of the highest ratings ever for a non US games. Loads of internet "word of mouth" through the day primed people in the USA to tune in.

MSNBC seems to be running the Olympics 24/7, at least where I am in the United States.
