I found macbooks can be cheaper in Korean than in Canada.

You talk of VAT, which is 10%. In Canada we have PST and GST. Unless you are in Alberta, chances are you are paying more than 10% tax on the purchase of that new computer.

These days though, in Canada you can get some kickass deals on notebooks. Even with the sales tax, it blows away the prices you get in Korea. We don't have as many people people buying electronics as Korea does, but apparently for notebooks a lot of schools are requiring students to have one. Thus many manufactures are competing for those sales, and you get plenty of cheap deals. Dell just had a deal on XPS notebooks for like 799 or 699. They emailed selected deal customers about it. XPS is their top tier notebook and for under a grand Canadian, good luck finding that in Korea.

I think the only thing I could absolutely say was cheaper was apple products and ram. Apple does set pricing world wide and so on a good exchange rate day, (like back in January) macbooks were cheaper.
