He is in american police custody, until he gets charged by the korean police, then the korean police have all authority over him and the others in the car with him. Of course he is getting kicked out of the military. He was only a young private, unfortunately, i feel bad for his wife who is 19 and pregnant back home, and will get nothing ... no support, cause he is an idiot. Good riddance.
how do i know this? i just do. |

Anyone know why news of this event has been so sparse? I thought when I first read it, a rage would sweep across the country but it seems to have gone barely noticed. |
I got roasted earlier for saying it wouldn't affect us. Those who said that, obiously don't have clue about the middle school girls incident in the first place.
So, as long as the US Army hands the guy over to be tried in a Korean court, this incident won't generate that much press. |

| I'm actually surprised that there hasn't been more protest about sending troops to Iraq. We seem to be having semi-regular demonstrations in Gwangju, and I'm sure many more are happening up in Seoul, but overall the public response seems a little underwhelming, considering that many Korean soldiers will probably end up getting killed or seriously injured. Of course, it is most decidedly NOT in Roh's interest to whip up public frenzy over that issue. |

He's a Sergeant in his thirties. The Koreans can charge him and still not hold him in custody during the Korean trial.
What's more important to the family of the victim? If the victim were a member of my family I would definitely want him prosecuted in a military court. Screw the politics. Roast his butt. |

When the country has a HISTORY of unequal jsutice in regards to foreingers, with a majority of it based on SOFA (enacted because the racist, xenophobix, jingoistic social programming of the people - still in effect today - would not allow any form of justice) it should come as no surprise that ome of the very guilty parties would use it to their advantage. What comes around - goes around. If South Korea wasn't so inherently, institutionally xenophobic then this wouldn't be neccessary.
As for the short time - look at how Korea doles out the punishment on some locals.
Why wasn't Kim Dae-han executed for INTENTIONALLY slaughtering, nearly 200 INNOCENT (at least in terms of their relation to Kim) KOREANS on the Daegu subway.
Mentally ill?
So what? It can be argued terrorists are mentally ill, but that does not mean we whoudlnt' eliminate them for their crimes agianst humanity.
If you want to wonder about injustice - look no further than the Kim Dae-han Daegu subway slaughter.

He was one of my boyfriends soldiars. It didn't get out alot, because the korean police didn't want it too, with all of the anti american stuff already. So the americans handed him to the koreans to deal with. He got 8 years i believe. His father came to the hearing, and was questioned. And he said "do whatever you want to him" and walked out.
im glad someone finally got nailed. |

Well I remember when it happened, and there was a post on this forum, saying 'oh here we go, there is going to be trouble, it's all going to go off again.' and it didn't. Perhaps Koreans did realize that, sadly, sheet likes this happens every day, and Koreans are just as guilty of drink driving as US army personnel. The guy was tried in a Korean court, and I believe got a very light sentence. I think drunk drivers, the world over should serve at least ten years, period.

Right FUBAR, I remember the thread man. A lot of the usual meaningless invective from the usual suspects. |
