Are you suggesting they put in vodka instead of water? If so, I'm trying that out tomorrow. |
Apparently. I've never tried it b/c it sounds like a waste of money and vodka to me! |

| I'd try soju...interesting idea. Maybe I'll try that next time I smoke at home. I keep ice in my freezer for iced water. Not sure how much difference it makes though. |

I heard that ice works wonders. Not just ice water but actual ice. And yeah, apparently you only put in 2 shots of your alcohol of choice.
One thing that I found works great is a wind cover + real charcoal (not the quick-lite ones). Make the sessions last much longer and the smoke is much more potent. Anyways, enjoy. |

Hey everyone, can someone give me some really simplified directions on how to get to someplace I can buy a new hookah at? I would like a nice one but doubt I can get my hands on a Mya out here so I will have to settle for what I find. I ask because I am a person that is new to Korea and has zero direction sense (I can get lost in a sweater, true story).
As a hookah junky I would like to add some of my favorite recipe's for my hookah water to the ones that have started:
Water, a dollop of milk and a sprig of fresh mint
Water, and shot of a a complimentary adult beverage (I have done tequila, rum and whiskey all which worked nicely) choice of beverage goes with choice of sheesha, it may be in my head but this seems to definitely increase the mellowing effect of the hookah, to be honest if its all in my head I don't care as long as it still works And it's tasty to!
Flavored tea (instead of water) but I don't brew it as strong as I like to drink it, chi, mint and black berry tea are my favorites, but I haven't experimented fully with other flavors yet.
My experience says go lightly with the additives, especially milk, just a little milk with some mint or some tea is pretty awesome but too much is bad news. And remember, your going to have to clean the this stuff out of your hookah (one time I got a littler over zealous with the loose leaf tea....should have strained the tea leaves out first duh)! Happy smoking all! |

If you don't want to buy online, you can go to the Muslim area of Itaewon. If you look toward the tallest hill on the south side of the main road, you'll see a mosque at the top. That's direction that you want to head.
Walk out exit 3 of Itaewon Station, past the fire station to the first crossroad. Turn right and walk up the hill. You'll pass Hooker Hill and Homo Hill (the first 2 roads respectively) on your left. Then you'll pass the Foreign Food Mart on your left (these are all important Itaewon landmarks btw ). Take the next left and keep walking toward the top of the hill. About 100 meters or so up, you'll see the hookah supply shop on your right. If you get to the Muslim Mart, you've gone to far.
If there's no one in the shop, the lady in the bakery across the road will come over and help you. I'm not a hookah connoisseur, so I can't tell you about the relative quality (though I suspect they're not top shelf), but they can give you everything you need to get started in Korea. I got my pipe from my friend, who ordered his online from Israel I believe, but I've replaced my pipe twice, bought shisha (see below), new coals, and mouth pieces from this shop.
Two caveats though:
The shisha from there is awful. I thought it was something I was doing wrong, then I bought some mint shisha in a can from the airport in Qatar on a stopover in September, and it's awesome. The box packed stuff they sell in Itaewon just doesn't have good flavour (that is to say none, bar smoke flavour). I'll be ordering shisha online from now on. If anyone has any recs for a good online shisha supplier, I'd love to hear them.
If you need mouth pieces, make sure they fit the pipe you buy. I recently replaced my pipe and the last packet of mouth pieces I bought don't fit it.
Finally, thanks for the advice on the water additives. What does milk do? Also, one more tip. If you decide to try Rainbow Room in Gangnam - which I highly recommend you do - ask them to mix the apple and cinnamon flavours. It's like smoking apple pie! Happy smoking |

| Hahaha... I just went back and read my post where I recommended the shisha from that shop! I must've been crazy. Please disregard. It's really not good. |

What brand are you smoking? I smoked quite a bit o various shisha brands back so it would be nice to get an idea of what's out there.
I'll go take a look on Gmarket right now.... |

I have no idea. The one I bought in Itaewon was in a cardboard box with a sealed plastic packet inside. The one from Qatar was in a can with a ring pull opening. Inside was a sealed foil packet I think. I tend to repackage as soon as I open it (to put it in an airtight container), and I throw out the packaging.
It could just be a coincidence, but the flavour of the canned one is so much better that I can't even describe it. Let me know if you find a good brand on Gmarket. |

It's illegal to sell sheesha online in Korea. I tried ordering from a Hookah shop in Daejon (I believe it was Daejon) and the owner told me it was illegal to sell online but could be bought in person just fine. |

Hmmm...I wonder if that's true or if it's along the same lines as it being "illegal" to give foreigners a check card they can use overseas
In any case, I'm going to order from the Middle East and have it shipped here. It worked for my friend, so either that's legal, or he got lucky. |
