When someone with bright teeth talks or smiles, I can't help looking at their mouth.
This loss of eye contact and the fact that I think it can be superficial, makes me not trust people with bright teeth. The can also have the tendancy to open their mouth to much and laugh annoyingly wherever they go, JMHO.

I'm British though and dentists were few and far between where I grew up. Mum has falsers and dad has rotten teeth. Blaming the parents is of course correct.

True about non-North Americans not really registering the attractiveness of peoples teeth.

Anyway, bad teeth can be good in the following scenario;

Imagine two attractive girls next two each other. Each having hot bodies, and beautiful faces....but one with nice teeth, and the other one a snaggle-toothed monstrosity.

The one with the bad teeth can suddenly appear more interesting because she's immediately dropped a few levels from 'supermodel' to 'in my league' kind of thing. Maybe i should move to Japan.

I am not at all bothered by the teeth of Jewel Kilcher though I admit to being temporarily taken aback when her smile showed them. In her case it's clearly about keeping things natural, or so says the Observer in the UK which ran a story praising her "unspoiled" personna by not fixing her teeth. She is from Alaska. It could have been a practical issue of not enough dentits. Or money. Her career took off after she lived out of her van in California. In any case, it doesn't detract, it adds to her image. She's all about keeping it authentic.

Still...

As a parent one should take an interest in preventing and dealing with cavities, and braces for a teen are better than boob jobs and hundred dollar hair styles later in life. Basic dentistry care is NOT very expensive. Most people in the developed world can afford it.

What's better nice teeth that are fake Implants, bridges.
Or nasty teeth that are natural.
If they do the job why not keep them.

I agree. It's all about being healthy. Crooked teeth are not necessarily 'wrong' - only if you've been brought up to believe so.

I have wondered about this same subject lately. Living abroad I watch a lot more international news now. I frequently see Brits (academics, politicians, etc) with jacked up teeth. I think it adds character to the person and I secretly admire them for their who gives a piss attitude. But as an American...I am going to Thailand one of these days to get nice new white veneers put on all my teeth...and have been looking forward to doing this for a few years. If you can afford to keep you teeth decent , why wouldn't you?

How much for the whole procedure in Thailand? How about in Korea?

It is about 3 to 4 times more expensive in Korea. Just search online for Thailand dentists. There is a whole industry that services foreigners from all over the world there because dental and medical care is so much cheaper.

Yeah, my husband had his teeth done during our holiday in Thailand. They did an excellent job - the dentists in that clinic were trained in Germany.

You know why the Germans go to Thailand. Hope they wear gloves.

Statistically speaking, Brits are not that far off from Americans in the overweight/obese charts.
