Yeah it's interesting, but I would rather go there myself, than read about it. Also, I think those books are best for after you've been to the place they're talking about, or about to go. Basically that genre just doesn't float my boat. |

I was just throwing out my ideas. What ever the group as a whole picks, is what we are going to read. I am also a BIG fan of Murakami and I am actually half way through "A Fine Balance" by Mistry. He just had a new book come out in trade paperback, "Family Matters". I am not a big fan of classics, but if the group as a whole wants to read/discuss one, I am going to have to go along with it (as I have to be there  ). As for the travel books there are some I don't like. There was one in my store about the Gobi desert. I could only get 50 pages into it and then had to put it down. I do not care about the flora and fauna the guy saw on his trip. I like the travel books where people have crazy experiences (Round Ireland with a Fridge for example). Don't worry though, I think for the group to be successful we have to have a wide range of books to suit everyone.

Overall I would say the first meeting was a success! We had a total of seven people and none of them were freaks. The first book we are reading is Salman Rushdie "Midnight's Children". The date for the discussion is not set yet, but should be early to mid Feb. Our second book, Graham Greene, "The Quiet American". Orders for the first book have already been placed, so if you would like to join us come on in and order a copy. Greene's book will not be ordered until the end of Jan, so you place an order then and join us for that one. At our first discussion, we will be picking out our third book. Drop on in for further info/explaination.
