semi - you can use but some of the features of the machine are unavailable.
total - it is unusable. It will not even boot up |

| How difficult is it to update your firmware? The guy in Yongsan said I could bring my wii back to him and he could update it, but I would rather do it myself. Anyone done it on their own? |

Well,
console - updates through the internet and can be done easily
mod chip - you have to download the update from their website, and burn it onto a disk to update it. It really isn't difficult, but a bit of a learning curve. ~there arent many updates also~ |

| Anybody got any links to good sites that explain the nuts and bolts of modding and taking care of "business" with your modded machine? I went to the homebrew website but found it lacking and my searches have, as of yet, turned up nothing useful, just a lot of sites that want to sell me chips, but don't explain much. |

It is now possible to totally change the region of your modded system. The region of the games it plays, the language of the os, everything. I had a Japanese Wii but it is now entirely in English. Were I to remove the mod chip, it would play only American games. It also now accesses the American Shop channel instead of the Japanese one. The same software also allows you to downgrade the version of the OS. Check it out here:

I don't think it is by any means "main stream" and I wouldn't recommend it.. but heck if someone wants to .. post your results  |
