I worked at Kangnam SLP for 3 years. Never had money issues or other problems you hear about on here. The owner is extremely supportive of the teachers and the students are top-notch. I only left to move a University.
You will hear the "Slave Labor Program" arguement, but at SLP you put in 8 hour workdays. No weekends and the doors are locked at 8:30pm. It can get stressful, but what job does not? At least it is teaching related stress and not paycheck, housing, or other BS.
At Kangnam SLP, the staff will teach you how to teach. The ciricullum is excellent and every classroom has computers and projectors in it. If you are (or want to be) a real teacher, this is the place for you. I have zero regrets and I am thankful to the school because they taught me how to teach ESL effectively and enjoy myself while doing it.

How many of these "awesome Hagwons" are in Seoul? Yeah, i thought so.  |

| Is there a big difference between the hagwons in Seoul and Busan? If so, what are the general differences? |

Lets see....
I live at Kyo Dae (Seoul Natl Uni of Education)in Seocho in the Center of Seoul.
I make 2.5
4 weeks paid vacation when I want
Only speaking class, so i just shoot the sh*t with my students.
No homework, no tests, no grading
M/F 5-10
T/T 4-10
W either 7-9 ( 2 hours) or no class
Show up 10 minutes before classif that, I live 2 minutes from my school by foot
30 second walk to subway (green and orange line) 5 minute walk to Gangnam and $5.70 taxi ride to Itaweon
Nice apt with big bathroom that my school owns
And my classes are cancelled on W, Th, Frthis week b/c I am doing a halloween skit with some fo the classes so they found people to cover all of my classes.
Bonus between 300-600 at Chuseok and New Years
Memberships to resorts with non-crowded beaches and non-crowded ski slopes
School is owned by bigger company that does medical and law institutes, this is the only English Hagwon but has lots of money and pays on time
I am the only foreign teacher and *gasp* thier hiring a native teacher already in Korea.
They have 13 other teachers but all Korean.
Name of the school is called Entop Academy, look up on web and ask for Katia and send her your resume

I sure wish I could say I have a great hagwon job, but, the fact of the matter, is I don't, and that's why I am leaving my job at the end of November, and it's either back to the U.S. or find another job.
I kind of feel liberated that I am not going to be working there anymore. It almost has the feel of a sweat shop for me. |

| maybe this is irrelevant, but i work in Busan at an AMAZING hagwon...and my apartment is exceptionally nice for a single/studio. plus, Busan has all of the comforts of the big city, with gorgeous buildings and an amazing nightlife. PM me for details. |

great hawgwon, awesome boss.. and the first nite i arrived, they all treated me well. teach 30 hours a week with holidays off.. so i'm pretty happy. then again, my last job was cdi, so... anything can seem like a dream compared to that.
but... the currency dropping 30% in less than one full paycheck.. not cool |

I'm currently in seoul looking for a good hagwon or atleast something that won't be like my last experience which was insane. I need to find a school before Nov. 11th though cause then I have to fly out of Korea for a bit.

Only taught 5-6 hours a day, rest was "prep time." Took a pay cut to go to a University. Kangnam is in Seoul. |

I have to say that my Hagwon is pretty decent. I get paid on time every month. There's a record of all the money coming in and going out of my salary. I have support from the powers that be at all times whether I'm in class or prepping. I only work about 5 hours max a day on average. And they give me food.
Decent for a Wonderland eh. |

Mine is not as good as nolegirl's, but good enough that I won't quit here to go for that the new job she is offering. The short hours though... I'm finishing the year here but if I sign another contract, I'm holding out for one with shorter hours. Working 40 hours a week is not that bad compared to what I'm used to, and I spend less than half of that in class anyway, but I could be doing so much more in Korea if I only had to be at work for 24 hours a week!  |
