Sounds like organized religion - minus any spiritual benefit.

Or maybe a response by people who would rather have not religious people write their beliefs into law?

If religious people don't think they're opposed, they will naturally feel free to reshape the legal system based on their religious beliefs. It's not organized religion to simply stand up and say "hey, we don't believe what you believe."

"Probably".....that doesn't sound like an atheist. It sounds like a "theist". An atheist would say there "definately" is no god.

I read they were not allowed to say 'There is no god' because it would violate advertising regulations, being a claim they cant substantiate etc.

Carlsberg have the same tactic with 'Probably the best lager in the world.'

I thought this would spark some debate about atheism (spillover from the monster darwin/creationism thread in fairness) but Im glad no one here has objected to having the adverts in the first place. That's good form as far as Im concerned Very Happy

I went to the donation page, total 92,228.00. (I 'probably' won't be donating, it's fun, but I've got beer to pay for). Interesting to see some Christians donating,(although probably just so they can post a msg about loving jesus on the website). Oh and a Canadian living in Korea gave 20quid Wink

Oh and the girl who started it all as a reaction to Christian adverts saying non-Christians were going to hell.

I consider myself a strong atheist because I strongly believe that all religions in history have got it wrong and didn't have a one-way connection with God. They never really came up with a good definition of what God is (universe creator? solar system creator? tribal protector?) so I think asking whether there's a god is irrelevant.

So when we all die, we just rot and that's it? Surely not so. It can't be, but we really don't know. What we do know is that it's healthy for humans to practice some sort of spiritualism, but one must truly fall for it and believe it to get any benefit. Going to church is a waste of time if you simply are not a believer. I believe something is up there that creates it all, but human interpretation of it is way off and a waste of time unless you look to be with others and be a part of the Christian community to gain a sense of well being.

Religion really is about people getting togethor to feel more secure and gain more peace with fears and threats. It can also be a reason for an artificial financial economic entity to exist for discreet interests such a tax evasion loop hole for the rich to funnel money through due to churches being non-profit corporations.

yes, God, there is a God in Heaven. Come save us all form the tyrannies of evil doers and vanquish all unrightous souls in limbo on this Earth to hell. Armageddon cometh! LOL give me a break. I never liked religion since all they fed me as a kid was all this scary armageddon shite that just made me feel really awful. It's the recipe for oppression of mass populations.

Hell I don't know; none of us know if this God, the creator in heaven, really is responsive and connected to churches held by humans on the Earth or if it's just a human intellectual pursuit or need due to being smart enough to understand and know that we all die. Lower lifeforms are not aware that we're all going to die so they don't need spiritualism to comfort them.

I have to say, your post shows a lot of internal conflict, or something.

If you really think that "Religion really is about people getting togethor to feel more secure and gain more peace with fears and threats," then I guess my religion is about going to punk shows.

Religion will probably exist forever, or until Science proves otherwise.
Believe in religion...Don't believe in religion. Who the hell cares? Just live your life how you want too...just don't expect me to buy into all that religious crap...

But let's be honest...
If there truly was a god, president Bush would have never gotten into power...
