If anyone wonders why Americans take pride in their country, listen well to President-Elect Barack Obama. |
We'll see. He is devatstatingly effective at giving a speech. The first time I thought he was going to win was when he gave his speech after the scandal with his racist reverend. I got goosebumps, but I dont know why.
It is all starting to remind me a bit of Tony Blair's initial victory with New Labour though. |

Exactly. And let's not forget righteousness.
While I am not exactly holding my breath, I am a bit heartened to have an intelligent, educated, articulate president again. |

This is classic Ddeubel thinking. And I treasure it.
Ddeubel: I have never been into the pins, never worn one; in fact, not into pins at all. Once I was a Geek and wore a Star Trek the Next Generation communicator pin on my leather jacket that I had bought from QVC. But I removed it after only a few hours because I felt like a Geek. As far as the post-9/11 American-flag lapel pins go, I never really saw them as too important. But I do recognize that many consider them meaningful. B. Obama challenged this and took heat from those who considered them meaningful. Now in his first appearance as president-elect he has changed and worn one while talking about unity. I think that is a good sign.
You remain far too dogmatic and rigid in your thinking. |

Nothing is sacred except my family. And if I had a choice between the presidency and my grandmother (to paraphrase Camus), I'd choose my grand mother....
Beyond family all is debatable, especially the flag and all the flotsdam......
In thought I am rigid, admittedly -- with people, we dance! And everyone CAN. We CAN.

Oh please, let's leave this alone! One thing about Obama, likeable, is the fact he is not dogmatic, "righteous" and will listen.....
He pretended to be the "good Samaritan" in one sense. Bravo he pulled it off. America is much better off without a puritan at the helm...forget that word - let's stick to what is "right" and "good" . These things we can agree upon, whereever, whenever, however, whoever in the world.
