I think with the closing of the red light districts in Seoul, we will begin to see more and more erosion of Korean culture.
After being here 2 years, I have realized that prostitution is the fdark cloud that overs hugely over Korean culture that no one talks about.
But one you get a Korean girlfriend and make a handful of friends you begin to see the HUGE role prostitution plays in this culture.
One thing ive noticed with Korean gf's is that they would get angry and even crazy when i said i wanted to go on an night out with the boys and this would infuriate me. But then, I went for a night out with the Korean boys and I could understand her suspicion. The night out with the Korean boys consisted of drinking tons of soju in a HOF the goin to a 노래빠 (not bang) ordering some agashi's then the one's would could still stand went to anma's or barber shop's.
After I saw this, i confroted my gf and actually invited her on a night out and she saw that this was not really a night out with the boys for me and she calmed down a bit.
I dont have a huge problem with prostitution, in fact I think most guys who cause big problems are the guys who dont routinely get sex. SO the crackdown on prostitution IMO will make this place much more dangerous, because 90% of the male population will not me sexually satisfied anymore. |
This is why I don't hang out with any Korean men--I don't want to lose any more respect for my hosts than I already have. |

I've seen 3 barber poles. What does this mean then?
My Korean buddy took me on a tour through a red-light district in Yongsan. There's a precinct nearby and the cops there were just standing outside the building smoking...... |

Korean men of all ages have no game, no rapport, no aplomb. So
for the most part they are terminally unable to attract the opposite

plethora of pay for play outlets here. |
What does this say about the quality of Korean culture? |

3 barber poles mean gay S&M, 4 means ladyboys....5 barber poles....well...lets say you'll want to avoid any place with 5 barber poles. |

Keep it legal and regulate it. Better for the women, better for the men. Also, there aren't enough women to go around as it is. Can you imagine the anarchy that would ensue if K-dudes couldn't get easy access to pay for play action? Also, "It is part of Korean culture" therefore it is by default OK, remember?
You think it's a co*kblock nightmare NOW at the bars? Wait until they try to further ban prostitution. Ouch. |

| There are many massage parlors in Los Angeles, Ca. and the women working in them are all Koreans, for the most part. Now I understand why, as they come from a country where it is rampant and part of the culture. I do feel prostitution should be legal everywhere, as you can't stop people from going after sex and if they have no partner its better to pay for it then to cause other problems in society. Are you all saying that it has been legal in Korea but the government wants to change that, or is it illegal but just overlooked and now they want to crack down? In Tijuana, Mexico the mayor cracked down on strip joints. Women used to dance naked and then they were dancing in bikinis. I think its silly to worry about things like stripping or other sexual activities. Now Tijuana is so violent they find dead bodies on the street every morning, a result of horrible drug wars. What is a little stripping or sex compared to thousands being killed in one year over the drug trade? |
