It would be a nice world if we all could laugh at ourselves and make fun of each other in good nature without worrying about offending.

It isn't a nice world though.

BO is a politician, and President to boot. It is open season. If he didn't want people to crack jokes, he should have gotten some ear flattening surgery and married someone far prettier. And before anyone asks, yes I'm black. And not PC in most cases. It's just silly most times. Bring on the greens and watermelon jokes!!

I still don't get it. Are Cadillacs stereotypically driven by blacks in the US? Is it like one of those watermelon-and-fried-chicken things that don't make any sense to non-Americans?

Exactly.

Easter Clark your opening line. 'I love Obama but...' reminds me a bit of the famous last words of Im not racist but...!

Normally the next words that come out of the persons mouth are racist!

So black people are now centralized are they just because there is a black president? All inequality and the bubbling pit of racism that exists in many parts of America have vanished overnight?

Electing a black president is a great start (although I hope/know he won because he was the best man for the job - not because he was black!)

One final point - Based on your point is it ok for me to openly mock fat Americans who cannot control their chubby fingers from shoveling greasy food down there throats?

We as a nation (UK) are doing our best to topple you in the fat race. We are currently top of the EU league table I think, but you are in a different league!

My friend once went out with a fat American girl. She was so fat he had to roll her in flour just to find her wet spot! Smile

She didnt want to see a good staple like flour go to waste though so she quickly got down to licking it off herself, well the parts she could reach!

Absolutely, as long as they're not Jewish / black / gay! Wink

This guy is Europes version of George Bush (but he is actually sometimes funny!)

This story links in quite well to this thread.

If Obama had particularly fat lips it would be funny. If it is based on stereotyping originating from racist ideology it wouldn't be funny.

A joke like that says much, much more about the person making the joke than the intended butt of it.

In all honesty if someone made that particular joke in my pressence they would probably be laying face down on the floor.

Same here. I say if you can't say it to a black person's face, it's not going to be funny.

I'm scanning the internet for funny Barack Obama jokes about race. I'll let you know if I find any.

So far these are the least lame:

The US presidential race is a marathon. That's why a Kenyan won.

Barack Obama has broken a long tradition by being the first black man to enter the White House without a mop and bucket.

News just in about Barack Obama's grandmother. It seems that she was lucky after all and had her final wish granted. That she'd rather die than see a n****r in the White House!

On television yesterday a Democratic operative pointed out that when Obama holds a rally 25-30,000 people show up, whereas when McCain holds one he only draws 10-15,000. The Republican spokesman replied, "That's because McCain's supporters are at work."

Is Barack Obama the first black man to beat a white woman and not serve time for it?

And from the UK:
I know some Americans are really keen to see reform in their country, and they're thinking of putting a black in the White House. My advice: don't. We've had a Brown in Number 10 for a year now, and it's been a fucking disaster.

I think that Michelle will probably bear the brunt of way too many of the jokes and that they will be sexist as well as racist because if you think about the reaction to the dress that she wore the other night, (which was not very flattering) it's not a stretch.

"Obama so ugly......"

"Obama so fat...."

MoS nailed it. Political humor is about wit; finding the foibles in the human condition and exploiting those. If the best a person can do is point out a person's color and then make a reference to watermelons, he/she doesn't deserve to be on TV.

Thank you, and good point. A few years ago the Wayans brothers made a movie called White Chicks, where they dress up in wigs and body paint and make fun of "dumb" white girls. We all got the joke...it just wasn't that funny.

We don't joke about a politician's skin colour (because they're so often white)--we usually joke about his/her latest gaffe.
