Ah, but the question asked is: in history?
Most important moments ever, ever................... ever?
Think about a long time ago.
I figure the origins of life might be significant. |

yes ... exactly ...
the most important moments ever
that we can learn from and teach our childern
we can only chose five
basically because of limited time
We have chosen the Birth of Christ
as the basic example of all religious life
this category would include all religious history
including "the origins of life "
We chose the printing of the Bible
to represent all technology endevours
{telephone,telegraph,internet,transitors,etc}
We chose The Signing of the Constitution of The Universal House of Justice
to represent all law both Divine and secular
and all knowledge and events related to law
{Cyrus the Great,America,Great Britian,Rome,China,Greece,etc.}
{military law , property law , family law , etc etc etc}
the last two ... ???
we still are grasping at straws ...
we like columbus ... yet perhaps he is more scientist/technology
we like penicillin /medicine ... yet ... again ... science and technology ... ???
so ... our last two categories ... still remain a mystery to us ...
we are looking for
something grand to sum up ... some sort of universal good
perhaps art/music/literature ...
and ... ????
o ... btw
thanks everyone for all your ideas
both simple and complex ...
if you happen to think of other great events
whether small and/or noble
it certainly would be enjoyable reading about them here
*smile*
thanks |

ok ...
for art/music/literature
we think we should scrap columbus
and instead insert
"the unveiling of venus"
{old greek statue ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_de_Milo}
the idea is ... what is beauty ... what is art ... ??
at some point in history ... some artist unveiled his creation
that today we call venus
in modern times we also really like
A Man Who Carved His Own Destiny
http://www.orlandofloridaguide.com/museums/albin.htm
however ... both figures are rather self centered pieces
and thus perhaps to a discerning eye obscene
to some thinking only of yourself is obscene
so ...
then you got the tried and true michelango
hand/God sort of thing
and to some this could also be considered obscene
for how can one depict an image of God
but perhaps we will stick with venus
as a means of expressing moderation in all things
so ... thoughts anyone |

| In terms of Western culture and closely related to each other are the Reformation and the Black Plague, neatly coinciding with the beginning of the Renaissance. |

That would be technically pre-history.
jajdude, did you manage to skip all the history courses in university? i guess one could meet the humanities requirement by taking philosophy and music eh. |

In no particular order:
Darwins theory of evolution
The Printing Press
The Crusades
The Great Wall of China (and thus the Mongol invasions westward)
Discovery of the New World
(as with many others this is very western centeric, as it is what I am much more familiar with) |

The invention of beer is, in all seriousness, what caused the Agricultural Revolution and basically kickstarted human civilisation. |

| Well Jesus really DOES have to make the list. Europe without Chrsitianity would be a difficult thing to imagine, if even possible. In addition no christ means no Islam. |

I'm curious how many physics, math or engineering courses you took? Most degrees don't need history. While all degrees should have aspects of other disciplines for a good education (though I see the math courses that arts students take, and I barely call them math), there are many arts courses available (history, psychology, philosophy, etc.) |
