I went for an interview and found out that the "camps" are calculated into your hours and that you must do one of them. 
No matter, as I found a much better gig with more pay, less hours and nice coin for volunteering to teach summer and/or winter. Also, it's not in boonies like Hanseo. |

Have noticed a lot of recent adverts as it seems people aren't sticking around there...
Not sure what happens after the adverts come down...
Maybe they eat the teachers and are harvesting a new crop every couple of months? |

Something like that, yes. This is a good one to avoid. |
I live in the area and know several of the teachers there. There are around 15 or so, most of the ones that are there seem to like it. |

Is there anything else to do "in the area" apart from be at Hanseo?

I lived in Seosan for a year and a half. Pretty boring place. It usually takes closer to two hours to get to Seoul on the bus. If you like eating Korean seafood, then you'll love the food choices. There are a few good galbi restaurants around. Very little western food aside from pizza chains like Pizza Hut and Mr. Pizza. There's a Holly's Coffee and your fast food restaurant is Lotteria (yuck). You'll definitely have to go to Seoul if you want good food.
You would probably want to get a car if you were out there. It would make your life easier. The public transportation around the area sucks.
There are some nice beaches close by. You pretty much need a car to get there though. |

I used to work there until 2009, so I can tell you that 3 of them have been there for about 2, to 3 years, and the other 12 were hired to replace the 8 of us who left or were let go. Seems like they expanded. |

Is anyone currently teaching there? I've seen that they're looking to hire around ten new instructors. Seems like an awful lot. Is there a particular reason for this?

| Not that impressive. Check what the housing is like too. I can't stress this enough. Pin down what type of housing you're getting in the contract. Number of rooms, furnishings, etc. Know what you're getting before you sign. |

And Popeye's is now closed.
There is a Lotte Mart there however...located next to Inji-myeong. There's some Western food there..but not a lot. A couple of DD's (bus station and town center). |
