schweeet. I'm just expecting it to be a good film to watch at the cinema as a film in itself without the baggage of trekkie expectation |

| Well it does involve Romulans. Futurized? How so? Just because the phasers look better and the sets look shinier, doesn't mean they are more advanced than what was presented in TOS. Don't judge a flying tin can by it's paint job. As for Nemesis, well, I think ANYTHING will be better than that crap. |
From cannon I was under the impression that the romulan wars took place about 100 years before Kirk existed. From pictures I've seen of the ship it looks like a completely different from the original, and again from cannon, the Enterprise was only between 10 and 15 years old when Kirk inherited it from Pike.
What's with the shiny black floor and white back drop? They used a good mock up of it in DS9. I refuse to believe that Starfleet opted for a complete over haul of the interior if they refitted the Starship (constitution) class and gave it to Kirk. It's also a pretty big stretch to think they'd go from Enterprise colours, to black and white, then to TOS colours for ships.
Finally I swear I saw some shiny new looking view screen on the "new" ship that wasn't on the original enterprise. |

not at all
anyone can watch the Walt Disney Channel if they like, even adults
i just get enough of children in my classroom
and seeing a kiddy Kirk just seems absurd, but I chalk that up to my getting older
I'm waiting for James Bond in elementary school |

Had a good laugh....but I'm more of TNG fan (and only a fan would understand "TNG") but I think it'll be a good flick and ANYONE can watch and enjoy regardless of age or STARTREKiness. |

Why the hell would they re-do the damn early ones anyway?!? If anything, why not go forward in time?!? In Enterprise, the guy from the 30th century took Archer to the Enterprise J. It was set in the 25th or 26th century. I always thought that would be a great re-entry point for Star Trek. Make the Federation at war with the extra-dimensional enemy from Archer's time and the Romulans part of the Federation.
Or are they running out of ideas?!? |

Well that's not cannon anyway. And in order for the Enterprise J to happen they have to build, commission, launch, and destroy/ decommission the F,G,H,I in like 75 years. It's not likely. Besides it was an alternate time line so things have probably changed. |

There has been no recent great Star Trek movie since, "First Contact". "Enterprise" (damn you to hell) TV series pretty much killed the ST franchise. Gene Roddenberry would be horrified at what Star Trek is now.
It is SO obvious they are running out of ideas.
I've always thought they should move forward in the ST timeline as well. The actors have aged in real life, so why not reflect that in the ST time? Deep Space Nine and Voyager showed you can start a new series independent of the TNG cast (with a few exceptions and cameos)...i think they would be more successful doing a time leap and introducing a new cast and exploring the ST canon rather than recycling bad ideas into pre-quels.
I'll watch the new movie if they bring Q back. |

They shot themselves in the foot during the 3rd season. If they hadn't have had that stupid season long soap opera, they'd have probably made it a few more seasons. The 4th season got off to a much better start and I thought the series was improving. The last episode was lame as hell! Once they got the word they were cut, they just slapped it together. |

i think this looks much better than i expected.
while no one can match the chemistry of the original cast,
the question is, can they at least hold their own with chemistry? this is an integral part of the formula of the original series and its movies. i somehow seriously doubt it. they may have to be saved by the Nimoy cameo. but i WILL see this. |

I'm really hoping this re-invents the Star Trek franchise. I'm very, very excited......
......If you want a good laugh download the documentary, 'Trekkies'. You'll piss yourself. |

I'm not too concerned about actor chemistry. It looks like it was very well cast.
What worries me is seeing Star Trek go from science fiction to plain old action/space opera. |

If they explore cannon they have to explore cannon. They have to tell us about the back story of the federation and all the magical technology that was invented/ procured between first contact and TOS. That's what I thought Enterprise was going to do. DS9 and VOY were great cause they worked independently of one another bu still kept with the spirit of what Start Trek is. Rick Berman and Brandon Brega did a good job of them. The hack job they did of the last episode of Enterprise almost made me cry though.
Star Trek needs to stay the course of exploring new worlds and new civilizations. It was originally meant to explore the human condition and humanity... This should be revived. It's the only way a NEW Star Trek can do make it. |

| And there is still a pretty big gap re: the years between TOS and TNG--even when you consider "Generations." I'd like to see the back story of the Enterprise-D crew. Maybe next time? |
