Please, if worthless thugs like Chris Simon, Tie Domi, and Bryan Marchment had long careers after making their livings trying to injure other people, a guy like Avery who runs his mouth once in a while will be fine. Six games? That's barely anything.

In the NHL being a classless turtle who runs from a fight is far worse than being a goon.

I'm not a Cherry lover but I prefer an honest goon over a cheap shot artist/cowardly pest anyday.

6 games for running one's mouth vs 3 games for intentional boarding or a cheap shot to the head.

Pronger got what, 8 for his skate stomp? And Avery has to get anger management classes? How unoriginal.

Avery's a pest but at least he brings some sort of character to the game. You can have all the Lidstroms and Crosbys in the league, but you need the villains to compare them with.

I did like the Rangers fans have a go at Phaneuf during their recent game though. Only cos Phaneuf is a filthy skiving Godless Flamer.

I prefer a Conn Smythe winning top-10 all-time in career playoff goals scored, top-3 all-time playoff game-winning goals clutch scorer (Claude Lemieux) over some skill-less punch head (insert goon of choice).

Claude Lemieux was a pest a la Esa Tikkanen and just like the Grate One he elevated his offensive game in the postseason because he was an incredible competitor who did whatever it took to win, whether it be get under the skin of the opposition by taking cheap shots or by scoring game winning goals time and again, he got it done. He had a significant role in cups going to Montreal, New Jersey and Colorado by playing an on-the-edge style of full-tilt hockey that crossed the line and caused heads to shake but also wowed with his threading of needles.

You prefer your goon, I prefer my competitor.

Don Cherry should've retired his custom suits and loud mouth a decade ago.

Lemieux was no coward though. I would never put him in the same league as Sean Avery. He did have that one infamous dirty hit on Draper during the playoffs one year. But he did the right thing and dropped the gloves with Draper the following season allowing Draper to exact his revenge.

By the way, did you know Lemieux is trying to make a comeback in the AHL right now?

after watching the TSN bit, Brett Hull likes him. He doesn't miss practices and he plays balls to the wall. He's a loose cannon at times but he has a ton of heart.

interesting to hear what Hull says on that telephone interview. He points to the poor play of the others on the team.

Bettman sounds like an idiot - guys beat the shit outta each other all the time but Avery says this and it's, "That's not what we want our fans to see."

Avery is such a cancer in the dressing room that the Stars head coach has said that he doesn't want him back.
Looks like Hull's days in Dallas are numbered too.

Avery is offically done with the Stars. Now its a question of what they do with him? No other team wants him (at that price) and a buyout is pretty expensive especially considering he has 4 years left on his contract.
Not sure they can send him down to the minors because he has a "no movement" clause in his contract.

At the end of the day they will probably just have to buy him out.
