america sucks at war, given fact. but, they still love it for some reason

Well, no. They're quite good at war. Occupation has been the failure.

This is true. The US military has proven it can clear a battlefield with a quickness. It was designed to kill people and blow shit up, and it's generally regarded as being the best in the world in that capacity. I think alot of people are confused and unable to see the difference between winning a military conflict and maintaining peace in a foreign country once the smoke clears.

Oh, and sharkey's an idiot, given fact.

Be nice to Sharkey. He's still in Canada dreaming about coming to Korea. Let him play in the sandbox until (if) he finally comes over, then his posts should get real interesting.

True Caniff, and the irony is the American government is its own worst enemy when it comes to these imperial solutions.

Hey, I'm not a warmonger, I'm just pointing out that the US's military capability is vastly superior to any other nation's. This fact is beyond dispute. And, yes, America has been piss-poor (IMO) in the occupation business. Again, the military was never designed for or trained in carrying out such missions (until recently, anyway).

I, as well as most Americans, blame the US gov't for poor decision making and for its general lack of strategic effectiveness.

Ignorant people are the ones who "forget" that the US supported Saddam when he was comitting most of these atrocities.

Good point!

I was waiting for someone to mention this.

The whole "religion of peace" thing died quite quickly. Now the story is that they are "misunderstanders of islam", which is just another empty platitude. But over the past few years I've noticed a strong trend towards Western people realizing that islam is the problem. It is still largely un-pc to say so in public, but getting less so.

But I disagree that invading or otherwise attacking these states is a solution. Just stop importing hordes of muslims and *presto* we're more safe. Terrorism is first a policing/intelligence issue and second (a very close second) an immigration issue. We have absolutely no way to separate the obedients from the 'cultural muslims'. Immigration policy should reflect this.

I think in the next 5-10 years you could well see a lot of race riots and other ethnically-charged clashes in Europe. A lot of people over there are unbelievably pissed off about the situation. You are already seeing a lot of right-wing groups getting more and more support, which normally I would not support but now that it's at least giving things more balance and pulling back the other way, I don't think it's all bad. Of the idea that Islam and western-style democracy and general way of life are incompatible, I agree 100%.

And then there's climate chnage - the rising sea levels will create floodding. disease will break out, killing hundreds of thousands of people. massive numbers of refugees will move into neighboring countries. wars might break out. doesn't look good, the future. then we have pakistan and india going at it, each with nuclear capabilities.
