True! Super laidback...and gorgeously beautiful. Very few foreigners and few locals as well. It's setting itself up for ecotourism at some point...but flights are not frequent enough and it isn't connected well enough to the rest of the Philippines for full-on mass travel - which actually makes it all the much better!

I love Palawan. I can't wait to get back there again.

I think I'm headed there soonish (Palawan, that is). I saw flights on Philippine Air for the equivalent of about 80,000 won return from Manila to Puerto Princesa. Not too bad!

Also, in terms of getting USD before leaving Korea, anybody have any thoughts on where to buy dollars? At the airport? I live in Itaewon...would there be a better place to exchange there?

cheers!

Can't we get Philippine pesos in Korea? It seems dumb to exchange money twice. Each time you exchange, you get hit with a fee.

Exactly. I find it redundant and wasteful to exchange won into dollars and dollars into peso.

Each time you make an exchange, the bank will sell at a rate that will make them money. YOU, not the bank will always lose value on your currency when you make an exchange.

Although Incheon airport foreign exchange booths don't have the best rates, I've found them good enough. Also, it's safe and you know you won't get cheated there.

But this is Dave's ESL and I don't think anyone is actually smart enough to realize this. Crying or Very sad

Yeah for what you want, go to the Philippines. Thailand is nice, but the touristy aspects do grow old after a bit. In the Philippines, you can actually feel like your taking a vacation than being targeted by taxi drivers and prostitutes at every other corner.

eac02, Just got back from Palawan and I loved it (well, most of it). El Nido is the place to go. Currently writing about my experience there with travel tips included at:
