Sungkyunkwan University seems to provide a high starting salary.

The annual salary of first-year professors is 43 million won at Sungkyunkwan University. (That was in 2001.)

The annual salary of first-year foreign professors (lecturers?) is 30 million won at Sungkyunkwan University. (That was in November 2003.)

Do foreigners earn the same as Koreans?

The source of the salary for foreigners was a posting on

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) is seeking a full-time lecturer to
teach EFL courses in the TESOL certificate program it offers jointly
with Georgetown University in Washington.

At Sungkyunkwan University:
1. There are only professors (kyosu) (Korean: ).
2. There are no lecturers (kangsa) (Korean: )

It is the style, right?

30 hours a week isn't a "hell of a lot". However if you were/are used to that it may seem like that. Try teaching back home though. With all the prep, marking, and extra-curricular activities, it's more than 30 hours a week.

Similarly, 30 hours a week of classroom hours also require more than 30 hours a week of work, with prep, marking, monthly report cards, student interviews, staff meetings, etc. .

Depends on the hakwon though. Prep yes I do that. Marking no, monthly report cards no, student interviews no, staff meetings no. Even when adding the prep time it doesn't come to thirty hours a week for me. Then again one has to be able and willing to haggle with the hakwon and not just sign the contract that's shoved in front of you. It helps to have a letter of recomendation from your last hakwon and other reference letters when you do this.
