You've got the Holy Grail being sought.
Depends on the drama you're willing to put up with, even stir up or instigate.
Once the student realizes you are attached, she will become more covertly mercenary in her approach.
As long as the g/f believes you're out breadwinning and bringin' home the bacon, and she's getting her share,
she won't bat an eye about you being "busy" 12~14+ hours a day.

Be organized and leave no loose ends to be discovered or suspicious about.

...what exactly is the "Holy Grail" of which you speak?

I'll side with your GF in this situation.

doesn't matter how innocent it is, it's gonna drive her crazy.

how'd you feel if some dude wanted to take your GF out on a platonic dinner?
I'll be glad to share.

You won't be making any money doing private lessons.

Private lessons are illegal.

You are welcome.
I thought it is legal if you are F-4 visa, right?
just the E-2 is illegal, right?

Yes, Grasshopper.

There is a solution:

Bring your gf with you to you at the first time, let her see how your student look like. They may become friends, that is the way Korean girls do.

I bet your gf is hotter than your student......ist it? Wink

Also give your gf freedom to watch your classes...

It is easy, dont make her jealous, as long as you dont think it funny.

Lucky your girlfriend isn't dating a doctor, dentist, lawyer, salesman, delivery boy, bartender, waiter, boss, plumber, or a cashier. Those guys would be broke only taking business from 50% of customers.

Has she asked you to throw away (or burn, cut up, etc) your old photos of past girlfriends or female friends? Where else in your relationship does she fail to trust you?

So I got a possible private lesson while riding the subway today. Frankly, I could use the extra cash and she just wants to improve her conversation so it would be easy as hell.

I'm sure others have had experience in this. Please share.

Come on man -grow a pair! Would you put up with your girlfriend dictating to you like that back home - I doubt it! Just calmly explain to her that teaching is your job and if she doesn't like it she can get bent. End of^^ If there's no trust there's no point in a relationship, I don't care what country we're in

I've got a solution for you. I'm looking for a way to make some extra cash. I'll do you a favor and take this potential private off your hands. This way you don't have to worry about causing problems in your relationship. Your gf will be happy, you'll be less stressed and I'll be much happier. Everyone wins!!!!

I say that it's a little weird your GF just automatically told you that you couldn't do it. If my boyfriend wanted to teach privates to a girl, I would let him. My boyfriend also has lots of girls from university he is friends with and girls that he met while learning English in the states he is still close with. He goes out with them sometimes. He often goes to lunch with one of the girls. Sometimes I go, sometimes I don't. No big deal to me. I trust him. I think the day I tell him he can't meet someone because I am not comfortable is the day I need to walk away. That means there is a bigger issue going on there.
