| So, the point is, it's healthy for a democracy to freely discuss potential conpiracies with a balanced approach. Obviously, there will always be wingnuts going overboard as there will be numbskulls who will outright dismiss everything even if it flies in the face of history. |
Well said.
Let me offer my own definition of a "conspiracy theorist": A person who is willing to consider alternatives to the "official" account, and is able to consider a situation or incident from multiple, sometimes contradictory, points of view.
I work under the assumption that we do not know can never know the truth absolutely, if such a thing exists, and so the more points of view we can accomdate and apply, the more insight we will have into the nature of our world and the nature of reality.
That's just me though. I imagine there are others who are not willing to devote the mental energy to such an apparently pointless evdeavor, and would rather get on with their lives. |

"I think Queen Elizabeth wrote the plays attributed to Shakespeare."
"Can't be. They're written from a man's point of view."
"Ah, yes, but Queen Elizabeth was really a man." |

I am glad to see that most posters here understand that this thread is not about the discussion of one so called conspiracy theory.
Regarding the term conspiracy theory itself, a good discussion is unfolding over at Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conspiracy_theory
It is also good to see that the discussion here has moved toward discussing extreme opinions. The world is never black and white. Looking further into the topic, it also appears to be a form of denialism to lump all conspiracy theories together. Finally, some so called Conspiracy theories are not theories, instead they are a case where a cover-up was exposed, while others do not merit any discussion at all, as in the case of Holocaust deniers. |

Ain't that the truth!
Some of those moonbats actually believe that a guy living in a cave on the other side of the world (on dialysis no less!) was able to defeat the most modern and equipped ntional defenses in the history of the world!

This is a good example of how conspiracy theorists don't believe ANYTHING happens by accident. Every event can be explained, quite often by bringing in another layer of conspiracy. |
This is a good example of how logic is not the strong point of the reality deniers.
"Not everything" does not mean "anything." Rational people realize that both accidents and conspiracies happen, and can actually make reasoned judgments about their likelihoods of beign true. Imagine that! |

And some moonbats would believe that it takes a lot of skill and technical ability to fly an airplane into a building.
Just as a locked door is good at keeping people out of your house, but terrible at keeping out cockroaches; the USA's national defense is good at keeping out battleships and aircraft carriers, but not so good at keeping out solitary wackos. |
