People only drink soju because it is cheap. Why buy imported, taxed crap?

Yeah, I bought a bottle this week for 14$CDN. Got some good Saki for 4$. Odd, that. Korean kimchi is three times the price of Japanese Kim-o-chi too. I guess we pay for quality??

Because it's rubbish. Pointless to export it anyway since it's basically on par with rubbing alcohol; you can just get a chemist to whip up a batch anywhere and save on shipping costs.

I think that if Soju was on sale in Ireland for 3 euro it would be a big hit with the college crowd and unemployed alcoholics.

Soju is piss and besides college students already have buckfast if they're desperate for cheap alcohol.

Soju is utter garbage alcohol. I'd rather drink urine.

Soju is fantastic, I don't care what anyone says! It used to be a lot cheaper in Ireland until last year. Now it's classified as a spirit whereas before it was classified as a wine. There is a huge difference in terms of government tax. So in Ireland it's best just to stick to vodka I reckon

a) The Korean PR agency won't know how to market soju appropriately
b) The international marketplace has spoken. soju is nasty
c) The makers of soju have already signed a global no compete clause with Lysol, 409, and Clorox.

I've been back in Canada for quite some time now (and ,yes, I still read Dave's now and again to remember old times). I went into a liquor store (Edmonton) the other day and was shocked to see Soju on the shelf. I never see it hear. What was even more shocking was the price.......$8.00!!! Koreans must be devastated when they immigrate to Canada.

I tried soju once with a Korean university room mate. It just tasted like bad strong white wine, as I recall. Nothing special.

In Russia a 500ml bottle of the cheapest vodka (40% alc.) goes for 70 Rubles. Very cheap, and enough to knock down any but the hardest alcoholic.
