| According to an older post http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=148061 his stuff was going to be picked up on Monday, delivered to Seoul and the TV was to be given to his sister as a gift. Do you know if she was aware of the sale and transaction? |

Fingers crossed.
Maybe he is busy, maybe not.
I presume you have his name for the transfer or was it a Korean name? |

You don't fancy grabbing my horse as well. It bolted when the door was open.[/quote]
Yes, I'm sorry for putting some faith into humanity. I guess it was an 800,000 W lesson and I won't do it again. |

Yes in the original post he said that he thought about giving it as a gift for his sister, but decided to sell it. On the phone, he told me that the movers were coming for his stuff Tuesday, so I went with that. I was aware of those threads however. Didn't seem all that suspicious to me though. Plans can change. |

Keep a note of all the emails and his bank details and telephone numbers
Police take cyber robbery fairly seriously here. Or so we are led to believe anyway. |

I am keeping my fingers crossed for that exact thing, which is why I don't want to go to the police or post any numbers on here yet. His e-mail address has one name, the bank account was in his "Brother in law'"s name. It is not a Korean name. |

Good ol' Gmail files all the emails nicely into one click, where he did say he would sell the TV to me (though the price is not in there). I also have both numbers written down, as well as the bank info. I hope they take it seriously, but he also said he was going back to Canada on the 28th. I don't suppose they'll stop him at the gates eh? |

| I reckon they would if you file a police report. The problem is he may have already left. Like sobber's said...keep ur fingers crossed....it might yet work out. But if u don't here from it tonight go to the police in the morning w/ a Korean friend. |

| Yup, just looked at one of his former posts and says he's leaving Tuesday, though he told me Thursday. Guess that's it... well, I'll still go to the police tomorrow with all the information I have, and if he does indeed have a sister and gave it to her as a present, well maybe I can still get my TV from them. Or, who knows, maybe the movers are just really, really late and they'll roll up at 9 with the TV. Thanks for the input all. |

It may well be that he didn't see the transfer in time if he was flying out Tuesday and the TV is at his sisters.
Could be perfectly innocent |

| It's possible Sob, but I just checked a previous e-mail and it definitely says "leaving the 28th". Also, he has not responded to the last 3 e-mails I sent (over 24 hours ago). I also tried to contact the sister several times, but the phone has been off since yesterday. No e-mail replys and not answering the phone, starting after I paid? Barring some crazy emergency, I'd say it's pretty clear. I was also told that bank transfers within korea are instantaneous. There is no reason they could not contact me yesterday, especially if the product was delayed. If I don't hear anything back by the end of today, I will go to the police with all the information I have. |

| I seriously doubt he didn't see the transfer. The bank account has probably been closed by now as so many westerners do when they leave Korea. What a low thing to do if indeed he has screwed you. There is a strong chance He probably thought he could play a few people here and even if he did have a genuine bank account, he like most people probably has no idea how you can criminally convict someone for fraud of $800.. |

| I wouldn't wait that long if I were you. Make sure you bring a K-friend to help you w/ the police. The longer you wait the more difficult it will be to resolve this. |

| I know I shouldn't wait but I have class all day today until 6:30 so it's going to have to be then. The way it looks now (again barring some unfortunate emergency) is that he gave me a fake name, said I was transferring it to his brother in law's account, lied about his departure date, then left the country this morning, closing his bank account and canceling his phone (though the message just says it's off). At this point, even if it is some crazy twist and somehow this is innocent, there is no excuse for not contacting me somehow. Though I'd like to avoid getting someone convicted for fraud unless they really really deserve it, I also don't like getting screwed over. Chances are though, he's left the country. |
