Theres also the fact that when I'm in virtually any other country, I spend far less time online. Too much interesting things to be doing...

Indeed. That was one of the major shortcomings of Korea for me.
But I do like to check here and find out whether things have changed much, not that I expect them to do so I suppose. |

Then why did you start this thread less than one month ago?
"What the bloody hell is going on around here?! I left my apartment today and was walking through a crowded market when this ajoshi accidentally spit on me. He just hocked a loogey and turned around and spit it on my jacket. He was mortified and tried to wipe it off, but I couldn't believe it. I had to use ever bit of strength not to punch him. Then I almost got run over by a motorcycle. This place sucks!"

nice work, dutchman. i didn't realize people were reading my posts so carefully. i wrote that in first person (present) to make it more accessible to the reader. it's a true story ... promise. i was a little drunk one night here in the states reminesing (sp?) about my korean tour when i remembered that experience and just wrote it out like it had happened. sorry if it's caused you any distress or made you disillusioned with this board.
i finished my contract in august and have since returned to the states. i'm not sure why i still use this board. maybe i need to get a life! lol. |

It also might be that you're in the wrong area for work. The job market overall in the US sucks, but some places are worse than others, particularly the West Coast and smaller cities. I'm in Southern California and as I said, one good thing to come out of my move is that I'll have in-state status within a few months and thus I'll be able to go to grad school with lower tuition. Case in point, Cal State-Fullerton for an instater is like $2000 per year whereas an out-of-stater would pay over $12,000. |

Perhaps it's due to the fact that this is a community and he is a part of it. |

Why do you care?
I don't post about Japan everyday, in fact I rarely do at all. And when I do I say I prefer it, not that it's better. There's a difference.
As to the OP, I vist Daves alot and read and post on the other forums as well. I think I get sucked into posting a lot here because there are a wide variety of subjects and a high post turnover. Lot's of interesting stuff being talked about and a lot is not about Korea. I actually usually post in the off topic forum.
Btw, go and visit the Japan forum. Man is it dry!! ALL BUSINESS! |

From what I've seen, this korean forum is the best for esler's of any country. "forumosa" was too big- so many contributors on there, and so many different forums, that you were unlikely to get to know any online characters well...no community feel like this one has.
I looked on the Cambodian forum when I was there- man , the teachers there are quite a different species to the nice people on here. A few good posters, but also a lot of real lowlife scumsuckers as well...I feel sorry for cambodia that it attracts such jerks... |

But according to a lot of the kyopo's and hard core apologists and pious lifers here it's Korea that attracts all the scum and we should just go home because we're giving a bad name to all the 'serious' teachers here! |

Did you read Off the Rails in Phnom Penh? I know it was about ESL teachers (predominantly) about 7 years ago and Cambodia has changed significantly since then but those teachers there were a bunch of sex and drug crazed nuts. They don't necessarily reflect the entire community there. I don't know. I didn't meet any of them when I was there. |

Zed: I read it- and yep, i still think esl teachers and the entire expat community there are a bunch of crazy nuts.
I feel so sorry for cambodia, its a place that really touched me emotionally. Its full of warm, friendly and great people yet exploited utterly to the max by the scummiest selection of westerners you could hope never to meet. I guess its in the same position Thailand was in a few decades ago- wild west twilight zone. |

Quiet! Do not upset the delicate balance! Do not make those people actually reflect and research upon the true state of affairs!

princess, I like Matko's posts because he's concise, he's a canucks fan, and without a whole lot of lewdness and foul language talks about how the face is unimportant and he talks about gals bending over and stuff |
