Wow, this has gotten way too confusing. Can someone keep it simple for a techno-simpleton? PS2 for Dummies?

THE QUESTION: What do I need to make it play Asian AND North American games and DVD's (originals and/or copies)?

Go(r)d strike me down if I'm wrong, but AFAIK:

A modded PS2 will play Asian and N.A. original games and copies.

It will not play PAL games (e.g., from Australia and elsewhere).

A low-priced DVD region hack disc will let your PS2 play (with perhaps a few exceptions) any region DVDs , but not copied DVDs.

MY PS2 plays DVD+R and +RW wonderfully (better than most set top DVD units), as well as Mainland pirate Dvds, BUT - it won't play DVD-R.

I don't know what I was thinking. Damn, I'll have to stop posting on these kinds of threads.

Mine plays the Yongsan copies too. It's the DVD-R burned DVDs that don't play.

DVD-R is a sh@t medium. Only SK sticks it out there as if it's the ONLY medium. It's pretty much dead. In America the DVD+R to -R ratio in shops is like 10:1 and in Japan it's 20:1, and in Taiwan it's 50%-50%. Here, it's 100% DVD-R, discounting Yongsan.

Korea!! UGH! (overall this sojourn's been decent, but this is an invonvenience that really gets under my craw)
