What do you think the Army does, Central Cali? Plant friggerty trees?

I know full well what the Army does, troll. I'm retired from 20 years active service with the US military.

Hahaha and now you are in Korea?
So how'd that work out for ya?
Now you're on an internet forum flaming a troll.

Well played. Well played, indeed.

Worked out very well. I got my degree in Linguistics using the MGIB and I'm working in a field related to my degree.

So which is better - controlling how citizens should live or controlling students?

Kill Afghanis on the weekend, teach Koreans during the week.

Best of both worlds.

Since the US Armed Forces do not "control how citizens should live," I would have no idea. What I do know is the benefits of alleviating one's own ignorance. I suggest you attempt to do so for yourself as you are demonstrating the most asinine display of ignorance on this board in recent memory.

Please inform me, oh enlightened one, in your little brain what exactly does the army do?
How does it promote peace? how does it promote freedom? how does it promote democracy?

Actually - don't bother. I already know the answer. Yawn.

I'm a US Army vet (1991-1995) now living and working in Korea, I was unaware that reserve units existed in ROK. It would be a nice option for those already here as teachers.

Is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea currently encompassing the entire territory of the Korean Peninsula?

Has there been a military takeover of the government of the United States?

Ignorant sod.

I suppose you could inquire at the Army Career Program at 0505-738-7334. There may be issues related to your visa regarding performing Reserve drills in Korea so you should also check with Immigration.

This board doesn't tolerate such things.

Hey, the IRR can work for retirement if you take active reserve billets every now and then. Just the same as any other thing, your time has to add up to X amount. I'm not sure on the details because I do not plan on retiring from the military, but if you get in touch with a prior service recruiter I am sure they can fill you in on the details.

I am an inactive reservist but not USA. I can parade with US units if I get paperworks done, but since I'd lose my rank, I am not gonna.

In the US military, one can retire from Active Duty after performing 20 years of TAFS (Total Active Federal Service). Time spent on Active Duty as a Reservist is included in that computation--I don't recall if the annual training is considered Active Duty for that purpose. Retirement from a Reserve Component (including the National Guard) is based on earned points. One earns points for monthly drills, administrative drills (for those in leadership positions), military coursework, and the like.

andrewchon: I'm curious as to why you would lose your rank if you were to work with a US military unit.

And I remind all interested in performing Reserve drilling here that they should check with Immigration as their may be issues involved with your visa status.
