True.

But it's not like foreigners have any tougher skin.

Obviously Koreans get offended because tons of posters make posts like "Why are Koreans rude" "Why are Koreans dirty for spitting" etc etc... (I'm guilty as well)

We think they are too sensitive because they are making a big deal out of a "minor" issue or slip of the tongue. We don't mean to be racist, but the way we write or communicate it, it sounds racist indeed.

But then look at the Christina Lee article where she said the word foreigner and tons of people are so offended by the statement. Foreigner is a word to encompass people from many ethnicities from many cultures. She didn't even attack a particular culture, idea, or skin color. But all of a sudden everyones offended, attacks her facebook, and then claims what a raist she is? (when race isn't the issue?)

Yes, yes, if Gyopos have thin skin then foreigners are made of paper

Favoring one race over all other "foreign" races is racism.

It was still above and beyond the call of duty.

Right,

And I'd like to add to those who think Christina is racist, that foreigner isn't a race. You can still be Korean and you can be a foreigner. Ergo, the term Gyopo meaning Korean born abroad.

She never said that she believes Koreans are the "superior" race, she said that foreigners, which includes gyopos, Koreans, and people of all nationalities.

It's all encompassing and it assigns a name to people with one value in common which is that they were not born in the land they reside. It doesn't exclude any races, nationalites, or cultures. One can still be a foreigner but still be Korean.

So race isn't an issue yet non-korean people are "racially" offended by it?

Is this a joke?? More Koreans on this site...

Koreans are easily offended and have very thin skin, this board would turn into more of a farce then it currently is now.

Plus how exactly are the mods supposed to go about encouraging Koreans o frequent a board that more-or-less bashes Korea from every conceivable angle and issue?

honestly, most people would be offended if they were attacked in the manner that many posters do on this forum. i've seen many attacks against koreans that aren't even specific to koreans, much of the resentment i've seen expressed on here seems like it stems from people being a minority for the first time in their lives. so if/when you return to the states, be sure to hug a black/brown/asian/hispanic person and say "i'm sorry" Smile

I'm a gyopo, and honestly, like all human beings, gyopos come in every shape, size and personalities. It's ridiculous that there should be an opinion of gyopos/Koreans should/should not post here just because of some few bad apples.

I gotta say, just as non-Korean English teachers feel slighted for being non-Korean in a very homogeneous culture, gyopos go through similar experiences, because though we may look like Korean, there are cultural differences that set us apart from your everyday Koreans. Count the fact that gyopos, whether they hail from the States/Japan/China/etc, they feel the sting of being a minority in their respective countries, despite the fact that they feel more connected to their native countries than Korea.
