If you want to buy Kaspersky, you can get a great deal on a legal copy in Yongsan I-park mall's 3rd or 4th floor (I forget which). It cost about 30,000 or 35,000 for 2 years. The box is Korean, but the key code works with the English version you download. I've done it myself. That's a good price. I dealt him down to that price because it matched the internet price on www.enuri.com . Kaspersky is running flawlessly on my wife's Vista machine. Vista has been around long enough that all of these programs will run on it just fine, to tell you the truth.

That's a really good price, I just checked there e-store, $120 for 1 year! Is there any particular store in the I-park or just try my luck getting it down to 30,000 with any of them.
I have been using a cracked version of nod32 where I just have to occasionally go to a website and get a new username and password whenever eset works out the old one is compromised or something. Anyway I can't say as i really trust it, it's not like you can tell if it's blocking viruses or letting them through. So I think for that Kapersky price I would be more than willing to upgrade.
what's funny is that while I have been writing this message my nod32 has popped up saying 'invalid username and password'. It hasn't done that for a few months. I'm definately popping down to Yongsan now! |

| Another thing. Is there any other software you would need/suggest to go with Kapersky for security or does it do everything? |

| There is no need to pay for security. |

I use the free version of Zonealarm and so far (touch wood) it has kept me protected.
It is a bit annoying when you first install because it asks you whether it should trust all your programs but once it memorises what you allow and don't allow it works away in the background and doesn't get in the way.
Just checked it....it says its blocked over 950,000 inbound firewall attempts since I installed it.......that seems quite a lot!
I'd recommend it anyway |

Unfortunately, you can't get the new Comodo without its new (and untested) antivirus tacked on with it. I tried the new Comodo AV security suite out for a few months. It's getting close, but still not ready for prime time. Comodo keeps making lame excuses as to why they won't enter it for unbiased testing. |

IMO, Kaspersky is the best one out there its cheap for a license too if you cant be bothered searching for new .key files regularly to escape the blacklisting they do for keys that are stolen
AVG Free used to be good but this new version is full of bloatware if you want to download it, go and dig out an older version from www.oldversions.com
ZoneAlarm is generally good for people who have no idea what theyre doing on a PC I used NAV for years but just find that Kaspersky is a little more thorough and more of a streamlined solution |

Dad just wrote me and said that AVG warned him he must update to a paid version by April 30th, or he'll lose it.
Not sure what that's about. |

YOu know, while my GF was in canada i cleaned up her computer and set her up with AVG. Since going back to korea She told me that she stopped using AVG because its forcing her to buy it thus she cant use it anymore... I find this very odd though. Ive been using free AVG for like 6 years or so and its never forced me to buy anything. SUre they have the advertising at the bottom recommending to buy it but they never made it where AVG wasnt usable anymore. ITs interesting to know others had that same problem. REgardless I like AVG. Never had any problems , my computer has never been infected soo Ill be sticking with this for a while. |

| My father said that AVG makes it sound like you won't get it free anymore, but after a lot of digging, he learned that this is not true. The warnings are false. So they greatly exaggerate in an attempt to get you to buy it. |

| I'm bound to get flamed for this, but the best antivirus for Windoze is Linux. Since I installed it, Windoze hasn't gotten a single virus...it's like a miracle. But if you insist upon using Windoze, I've used Avast and ClamAV. Clam is really lightweight and I've heard lots of good things about it. It's a Linux native program and I use it so my Windoze partition doesn't pick up bugs from my Linux partition. In case I've made it sound otherwise, you can use Clam on Windoze. I've used Avast on various Windoze machines for about 5-6 years now, ever since my friend who builds and repairs computers for a living told me about it. |

How does kaspersky match up to top antispyware such as "Spy Sweeper"?
I've seen the Korean version of Kaspersky for sale like you say- Nowhere has an English version. You're saying that its not an issue? |

No issues.. you can buy the Korean key and insert it when you download the English version direct from Kaspersky. They don't care what language you use. Don't use your key on multiple computers illegally, though, because they'll blacklist your key right quick.
Kaspersky does great on spyware, rootkits, etc... it's always in the top 3 or 4 anti-virus programs out there. The thing about Kaspersky that i like is that the program works well on my machines and doesn't cause issues. I sometimes run Malware bytes free anti-spyware once every several weeks just to see how Kaspersky is doing, but it never finds anything substantial that Kaspersky didn't already get.
Same could be said for Avast, to be honest (free). I just went back to Avast on my main machine yesterday, because Avira began causing boot issues slowing down my machine. I tried PCTools next, and boot issues were worse, Went back to Avast, and no problems. With Free Home edition of Avast, you need to remember to scan yourself once every week or so.
As for Kaspersky, if you buy Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, then you're covered with anti-virus, anti-spyware, and a firewall. Some people don't like Kaspersky's firewall that much, because it isn't as easy to manipulate as Zonealarm, for example. In that case, you can buy Kaspersky Anti-virus (not Internet Security 2009), which is the exact same thing minus the firewall.
Again, I like Kaspersky a lot, and it's on my wife's machine because it's easy to install and just leave alone. It does a great job and doesn't seem to cause any major slowdowns, issues, or conflicts. |
