Hmm, probably wasn't anything 'New' about my Headway, since this was a couple of decades ago. Embarassed

How about considering something like Jazz English for freshmen? This book also has flaws, but it does at least provide hundreds of fun conversation-starting prompts, and doesn't get bogged down by grammar terms. It's more what Korean students need.

Has anyone else here used Jazz?

Jazz English is pretty good, but can become a smidge boring as the chapters go on, so add some other stuff of your own to spice it up a bit. Chapter 4, if I remember correctly, was set up for people who already have jobs, so much of that chapter was a waste on university students.

I think the Smart Choice series is not bad, and if you buy nothing else from it, just get the Smart Choice 3 Teacher's Resource Guide. It's full of good activities that can be photocopied and added to any other book.
