About 50% of my students don't have a clue how to use a paperclip.

I find they are useful when you forget your toothbrush.

I was just in Korea for 2 weeks and since I workout pretty heavy and played football in college, many Koreans would come up and squeeze my biceps and go "ooooohhhh" or feel my lats without warning.

I wasn't too disturbed by this but when you feel a hand squeezing you without forewarning it can make you a bit jumpy.... and from where I'm at in Philadelphia usually a roundhouse punch will come when someone grabs your arm from behind you.

[quote="Goku"]I noticed on the ground there marble tiles that have a yellow bumpy hard plastic. What's the justification for

1) Using marble tiles only to cover them in plastic.
2) Why put the tiles there in the first place, if you're only going to be covering them up.
I'm sure there is a good logical reason. I'm just curious as to why. It's been eating at me ever since I got here. I'm sure I'm the only one who cares about this too.

Hi Goku,
They are for the blind - they have similar "bumps" in Europe.
(I hope no one else already answered - I didn't finish reading the pages - and I need to amp up my postings)

How drivers speed up when someone is jay walking, honking the horn instead of hitting the brakes. I asked my co teacher about this, and she told me that here, pedestrians DON'T have the right of way. So, my jaw hanging open a little bit, I said "yeah, so?"

She just smiled and said "That's why we speed up."

My students have trouble with passing homework forward. Half of them would rather get up and walk to the front with it than pass it along. It's especially difficult if there's no one in front so that you need to pass to the side, apparently.

So much for cooperation.

I'm Korean and I find the fan death thing hilarious... apparently the only place in the world where people have died from leaving fans on overnight is in Korea.

Quote:
Fan death is a South Korean urban legend which states that an electric fan, if left running overnight in a closed room, can cause the death (by suffocation, poisoning, or hypothermia) of those inside. Fans manufactured and sold in Korea are equipped with a timer switch that turns them off after a set number of minutes, which users are frequently urged to set when going to sleep with a fan on.

Also, the way they treat simple ailments like stomachaches by pricking your finger to let some blood out. What's that all about.

I like to sleep at night with the fan on in the Summer. I've got a mosquito net over my bed and I put the fan under the net. Last week I broke the timer dial, so now, the fan stays on all night.

I'm still here.

That's cuz you don't buy into that bs Smile

I remember my mom scaring me about the fan death thing when I was 8... She got me good. Also my dad would always tell me I *had* to have my stomach covered while I slept.. otherwise it would give me a stomachache because "air will get in through your bellybutton." LOL.

But to this day, I really do get stomachaches when my belly is bared. Embarassed
