I thought 3 Iron was the best Korean movie. "빈집," is the original name meaning, "empty houses." I watched it like 15 times back in 2004 when it came out on DVD not even yet knowing I would be spending a great deal of time in Korea. Heck, I thought it was Chinese at the time. Good flick.

From Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wei - 2046, In the Mood for Love, Days of Being Wild

From Japanese director Takeshi Kitano - Violent Cop, Dolls, Sonatine and many others

The Japanese 'Ring' films - Ringu 1 and 2. - 3 is shite.

Japanese - Director Hideo Nakaata - The snake fo June

From Korean director Kim Ki Duk - spring, summer, fall, winter / The bow / 3-iron

Korean - Park Chan Wook - old boy / sympathy for Ms vengance

Thai director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang's 'The last Life in the Universe' is one of my all time faves

Just a few off the top of me noddle to get you started.... please bear in mind I'm a film student and used to want to be a writer / director so some of these are pretty deep / serious movies not just kung fu, explosions and sex.

Oh and if you've never seen 'Farewell my Concubine' literally go out and jump under a truck NOW, yes RIGHT NOW - GO and DO IT!

Oh and here's a cool piece on Kim Ki Duk and the hard time he and his movies have in Korea.

some people named some good ones.

Korean movies:

- Anything by Bong Joon-Ho : Memories of murder , the host , Mother..
- Voice of a Murderer
- Bittersweet life
- Chaser
- I recently watched a movie called "privated eye" the story is just ok
but i really liked the production design and the look of the movie.
- I do have a sweet spot for korean horror movies. None of them are particularly great but i love watching them. im a horror fan in general.

Chinese movies:
"Ip man " is a very good movie. Cant wait for the next one.
Been watching old jackie chan movies like Drunk master and drunkmaster 2. always fun to watch old kungfu movies.
Fist of Fury is good.

Japanese:
Battle royal is pretty good.
Im not a big big fan of japanese movies, I mostly watching japanese anime more than the live action stuff.

I dont really know much about other asian movies though such as thai movies. I just cant stand the language. I endup watching the in mute with subtitles... No offense to anyone whos thai.
