There's a Korean band called Sannulim that I heard on the radio which played in the 70s and 80s but they sound a lot like 1960s psych music to me.
Some of their stuff was mellow but with sort of sinister undercurrent, reminiscent of Velvet Underground. Other stuff is more straight-ahead rocking, sounds almost like British Invasion but in Korean. Some of their albums for children sound a bit like They Might Be Giants.
Seems that at the time, there was no such thing as a Korean music industry that manufactured stars. It was just about bands, back in the day.
Other than that I just listen to the same old, same old:
VU
Leonard Cohen
Sandy Denny
Martin Carthy
Pentangle
But I do make a mantra of the lyrics to "The Shah Sleeps in Lee Harvey's Grave" as I try to bolster my aura to deflect all of the speeding chicken delivery motorcycles that zoom at me down the sidewalk. |

Such an amazing band. Perfect music while walking or riding on the subway. |

A folk metal fan I see. You should have Moonsorrow and Ensiferum on this list too then, maybe the originators, Skyclad, too. I'll see if I can think of any more recommendations. Maybe Horna and Einherjer, too. |

Oh yes I do like Moonsorrow and Ensiferum (in fact I can't believe i didn't put one of their songs up there, as Ensiferum is my user name on various other websites)
I haven't heard of horna, But I shall check them out.. I don't like einherjer or skyclad that much. |

Do you like Amorphis? While I'm more a fan of their older stuff, their new album "Skyforger" is decent enough. I'm more a fan of black/thrash/doom though, Windir ftw! |

I just listened to "After the Goldrush" and "Harvest."
These are still great albums. His live CD from the 60's that was realeased last year is also great. |
Nothing better these days than 'Cortez the Killer' full blast on me i-pod at 3am after a nice drinking sesh, stumbling around the apt with a nice beer buzz and having a ciggie before bed ha ha.
I don't like all his stuff though. In fact these days I pretty much only listen to Cortez, Heart of gold, old man, the needle and the damge done and rocking in the free world now...
But you know, most artists would be creaming themselves to have come up with 5 pieces of material this good.... |
Greendale (2003) was a great album with anthems (they're 10-minute songs) like 'Carmicheal', 'Be the Rain' and 'Sun Green'. 'Devil's Sidewalk' is my favorite from this album.
Living with War (2006) was an above-average album for Neil Young, but your politics may affect how much you like it... I love it.
Fork in the Road (2009) is also surprisingly good. 'Hit the Road', 'Fuel Line' and 'Johnny Magic' are all reminiscent of his 70's stuff.
He isn't reinventing the wheel, but he can still make me tap my foot and sing along. His classics are great and all, but his more recent stuff is pretty good and underrated. |

I must be getting old as recently I've been downloading a lot of stuff I used to listen to when I was a teen in the mid/late 90's. Some of these bands seem to have reformed fairly recently, or will do soon (Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, RATM, No Doubt etc.). Plus loads of bands are still going from that era.
I'm also liking a lot of the 80's sounding stuff that's quite popular at the moment. |

I've tried to like Amorphis but I just can't get into them, I have liked so many different sub-genres in the past, the worst of which has been nu-metal and rap-metal
I don't mind a bit of thrash myself, i'm trying to get hold of a korean thrash bands music, they are called Crash.
the bands which I haven't listed who I like to listen to are, Kreator, Slayer, Iced Earth, Pantera, At the Gates, Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards, Static-X, Rob/White Zombie, Manowar, Hammerfall, Scar Symmetry, Soilwork, Tyr, Wintersun, Dragonforce, Godsmack, Devildriver, Fear Factory(pre 2000), Alestorm, Grave Digger, Dark Tranquility, In Flames (pre 2006), Sentenced .. that's all I can think of right now, but I have been into many others in the past. It all depends on my mood |
