Eminem - Shake That (Feat. Nate Dogg)
Here is a sample from the 2nd verse:
'Two to the one from the one to the three
I like good *beep* and I like good trees
Smoke so much weed you wouldn't believe
And I get more ass than a toilet seat
Three to the one from the one to the three
I met a bad bitch last night in the D
Let me tell you how I made her leave with me
Conversation and Hennessey'
If that's not genius I don't know what is. |

| If you're religious, which I'm not, a band called mewithoutYou has some very deep, poetic lyrics. The lead singer has autism and I believe that his unique view of the world helps him create some of the most beautiful and insightful lyrics I've ever read. He borrows ideas and phrases from many great spiritual writers. Good stuff. |
I love mewithoutYou, so when I read this I was curious because I've talked with him before, and he just didn't seem autistic. Anyway... here's an excerpt from an interview with the singer about his "autism".
"Q: There isn't really that much, I didn't mean to worry you. One of the things I was referring to is that someone started a rumor that you were autistic or something like that.
A: Yeah.
Q:That was the one that really stuck out. Then there was a flurry of people going back and forth, saying it was someone else, or saying that you had some other condition....I was just kind of taken back by the fact that people were discussing it. I searched around for it and I couldn't find any other information aside from rumors.
A:For me, yeah. It's almost just like, a curiosity. It's sort of funny. I laughed when I heard that. People have asked me, "so I heard you're autistic," and I'm like, "....no?" It's funny that people would say that without knowing. Obviously, it's not true where ever they got it from. It just goes to show that you can't believe everything you hear or read. When you read things about yourself that you know aren't true, it's just sort of like, "okay, this is just the way things go." But no, it's not hard. People can say whatever they want. I've never been terribly private about guarding my business or, "hey, don't talk about me." The way I see it, nobody is my judge except for God and nobody is going to convince God of anything any different than the truth. It's not even saying something bad about me, like, "he's a rapist or a murderer," or something like that. And even if people started to say that, again, our God knows the truth. It doesn't matter what people say."

Gord Downie penned some lines that have stuck in my mind over the years.
"there's nothing uglier than a man hitting his stride"
"my great grandfather was a welder, he helped build the Titanic, he certainly didn't think it was unsinkable"
"ain't got no picture postcards, ain't got no souvenirs,
my baby, she don't know me, when I'm thinkin' about those years" |

"Either it'll move me
Or it'll move right through me
Fully, completely"
"He said I'm fabulously rich
Come on just let's go
She kinda bit her lip
Jeez, I don't know"
And of course, Nautical Disaster (we used to listen to this one on long car trips when I was a kid):
I had this dream where I relished the fray
And the screaming filled my head all day
It was as though I'd been spit there, settled in, into the pocket
Of a lighthouse on some rocky socket
Off the coast of France, dear
One afternoon, four thousand men died in the water here
And five hundred more were thrashing madly
As parasites might in your blood
Now I was in a lifeboat designed for ten and ten only
Anything that systematic would get you hated
It's not a deal nor a test nor a love of something fated
The selection was quick, the crew was picked in order
And those left in the water got kicked off our pant leg
And we headed for home
Then the dream ends when the phone rings
You're doing alright
He said it's out there most days and nights
But only a fool would complain
Anyway, Susan, if you like our conversation is as faint a sound in my memory
As those fingernails scratching on my hull
(Why does every lyric search site always have exactly the same incorrect lyrics as every other lyric site?) |
