Is it only Korean kids who do this, and only to foreign teachers? Certainly they never poke Korean teachers in the butt?

It is one of the most idiotic things I ever encountered. Yes i know they are just kids and all, but man, what goes on in theIr little heads to think this is fun or whatever?

Strange country, strANGE CULTURE.

If you teach kids, ask the Korean teachers at your school if they've gotten "it". I'll bet you they haven't. None of the teachers at my schools ever did.

Here is my report on ddong cheeming:

From what I have learned, it comes from a kids television cartoon program. There is a ddong-cheeming menace who goes around ddong cheeming both the good guys and the bad guys. He is neither a bad guy or good guy himself, but rather a "neutral menace for all characters".

Sorry I don't remember the name of the show.

The two serious Korean girlfriends I had both ddong cheemed me. Of course, I returned the favour.

"Front cheeming", as Waterbaby mentioned earlier in the post, IS taboo behaviour however.

It always surprises me how much fecal talk enters Koreans' lives. They talk about going poo as if it was like getting your hair trimmed.

The first hogwon I worked at way back in 2001 had a very curious wonjangnim (Woman) who asked me what was "shiit". I had said it a few times under my breath while helping her attach balloons to the wall (they kept coming down).

I told her it was a bad word, and it was, well, poo. Then she started an unholy mantra of "shiit shiit shiit" and a few other Koreans joined in the mantra (some students too!).

I explained again (with a grin on my face) it was a bad word.

Didn't stop them.

I regret teaching that word to them, as they from then on always used it as both a noun and a verb.

"My shiit was a lot this morning!"...."I want to do a shiit"...etc.

Anyway, back to ddong-cheeming:

It bothers me only because for some reason, Koreans find it acceptable to do it and have it done to them.

Liberace's paradise indeed....

Now that makes sense...some sick bastard of a TV producer. Wonder if it was a Japanese show?

My mother in law used to always pat me on the shoulder and say, over and over (in Korean of course): America is really good. They say even the shit is good in America...

She really thought that was funny, but she was pretty old and starting to lose it.

I've never seen it happen to a Korean teacher. It seemed to be something that they would do to the foreign male teachers at my hagwon. They also seemed quite fond of grabbing the foreign female teachers' mammaries. (I can't believe that 'b r e a s t' is censored. Is it an offensive word?)
