Do you play word racer?

Yep, and a bit of "literati" now and then.

There are worse addictions though, so whatever. Still, whenever I've made a point of going a day or two without it, I get pounding headaches.

Me too. What's the reason for that? Anyone know?

Withdraw symptoms. Caffeine is an addictive drug.

I had some physics profs in University that drank coffee all day long, never without a thermos in their hands. One tried to quit and within a day he had a massive, pounding headache.

Yeah I often play those; usually just try for bigger words, hate all the fuss over short ones. But can never get in the 2000s.

I have a serious coffee addiction. I used to drink 5 cups a day. Everytime I went to Seoul, a grande coffee sometimes more. I am now down to 2 cups a day.

I also binge smoke, 5 cigarettes a day, 2 to 3 at a time.

Reading,

It helps my mind get off stress and things that bother me.

I've read 7 books in the last week. But here's the thing. I don't read a book a day. I read 3-4 in 1 day. I don't read on the train either.

I go to a bookstore, sit down for 8 hours and just do a marathon of reading. I ALWAYS take huge breaks, smoking and going to the bathroom. But when I read, I read a page in 30 seconds or less.

I've achieved speed reading. Its good and bad. I burn through books like candy, so I pay so much in buying them.

honest question: how's your memory of read books?
snarky question: how's your comprehension of said books? Wink

Depends on the book.
Speed reading greatly increases comprehension for "light and predictable" material. Such as a novel or a relatively unchallenging book like a self help book.

However, for books that have complex jargon or too many intertwining ideas and premises it can lead to confusion.

However, almost 95% of the books we read are the former. so comprehension is much better. The reason speed reading helps with comprehension and memory of the books is because we are able to predict and read ahead of just normal verbal syntax. Visual imagery is much stronger and therefore understanding and recollection increases.

I highly recommend speed reading to anyone because it really opens worlds but it can be difficult to grasp a hold of. Especially because speed reading requires peripheral training and unlearning our old methods of reading.

I sped read in middle school and lost it sometime before college. When I was in college it took me 4 months to retrain it. It's a skill that takes a long time to pick up, but is also easy to lose.
