I really don't think this thing is coming out in its present size. Is there anything I can do to strengthen my stomach acid immediately? |

Everyone was eating the stuff, so I figured they just swallowed the bones. I assumed if they were swallowing them, they must do it all the time, and it must not be unhealthy. But after doing it, I looked around at their trays and everyone had left the bony pieces untouched. I told my co-teacher what I just did and she was shocked. She said I shouldn't be eating the bones. |
Koreans don't even eat the skin on a grape - and you think they eat bones? |

| I'm sitting in a PC Bang, and my bowels are starting to get all topsy turvy. It does not feel excellent. I just got here, but I think I am going to go home now. I hope I make it through the night alive. |

Yah!! Nice try!! The walls of the tube an infant slides out of are 20-30 cell layers thick. Very durable with lots of mucus. The other tube is 3-7 cell layers thick with less mucus, not nearly as plyable and not meant for......
Bone is calcified cartilage. Calcium is a metal (in case you people did not know). The HCL in your stomach is meant to break up soft organics like meats and vegetables etc.

Are you seriously trying to talk science here?
So you're saying stomach acid will not dissolve calcium? Ever hear of CaCl2? Ever hear of limestone? 1st rule of geology...if's it's easily dissolvable it's probably calcium carbonate. But don't let my 4th year geochemistry fool you. What do I know?
Small bone like that will probably be dissolved. The OP is still a fool for swallowing a bone.
Oh by they way OP I thought this thread was going somewhere else until I read your first post. |

OP, how old are you? If you're old enough to be working in Korea, I'm very surprised that you've lasted this long. Were you brought up on a diet of soft, gooey food and soup?
If the bone gets stuck on the way out, be like the mathematician with constipation... work it out with a pencil. |

LOL at first I was becoming slightly offended at your rudeness, calling me a fool and whatnot. But I'll let it slide. Just the internet, I tell myself. Not real people, right?
I did get a good laugh at the last sentence though. What did you expect? The thread title states that I swallowed a bone. This thread is about how I swallowed a bone and the consequences. What did you expect? This is semi-rhetorical.
I'm trying to put myself in your shoes, and I can imagine being disappointed that there was no follow up like "I swallowed a bone. It got stuck in my throat, and I tried to yell, 'Heimlich manuever!' but all that came out was 'Haeerrrraaachhh Maaahhhccchh.' I doubled up over the back of a chair in an attempt to perform it on myself. Success! Though my throat is sore."
Or, "I swallowed a bone by accident. This was around 4 weeks ago, and I have yet to poop it out. I haven't pooped anything in 3 weeks actually. My co-teachers tell me that the hospital will just tell me to drink soju to pump it out, so I should spare myself the trouble and just eat kimchi to dissolve the bone and cure any cancer I might have too."
But nope. I just swallowed it today. Wondered what would happen. Asked if I should do anything about it. Boring thread. No entertainment. Sorry. |

Grew up on a very poor goat meat diet in the Appalachian mountain wilderness. Cheese was served at every meal. We drank yogurt. We boiled the goat meat for hours until it was nearly liquefied, so yeah, I was pretty much brought up on a diet of soft, gooey food and soup-like stuff.
It was quite a shock to come to Korea and see people chewing their food. Forgot to add this in the original post, but I'm so ignorant about the eating of bones because having been without teeth for a number of years, I'm not sure anymore what foods are chewable and what aren't. I thought if the Koreans were crunching up the bones with their teeth, surely my esophageal molars (vestigial from a now-extinct offshoot of homo sapiens, thank god we can cross breed) would take care of the job before it entered my stomach. |

In the past children grew up and learned how to eat and live back on the farm.
Now children come to Korea, and learn how to eat and grow up. The world got smaller. There is nothing wrong with this. Everyone needs to learn how to eat, and it is an especially useful skill if you attain it before your Masters degree. However it is OK to learn how to eat whilst doing one's PhD too. |

| As long as the diameter of the bone is smaller than the hole the bone needs to come out of you'll do just fine. Otherwise bring a good magazine to the John with you. Oh, and eating bones is pretty stupid. |

Nickel sized is very small. Don't worry about it.
There was once an old lady that swallowed a spider, to swallow a fly. I don't know why she swallowed the fly, perhaps she'll die. Swallow a dog, to swallow the bone, then you'll be sorted (or perhaps you'll die).
I wonder what your cause of death will be listed as...he died from having a bone up his ass. |
