My good friend married a Thai and divorced her. He had some horror stories to tell.

| One big difference between Thailand and the Phils is the people you'll meet. Thailand attracts lots of young tourists, especially from Europe, while the Phils attracts mostly Koreans on group tours or Christian missions, sex tourists, and lots of retired U.S. Army guys living off of their pension checks. |
I met one of those guys quite by accident. He was trying to escape from his filipina wife... |
Just about every guy from the West there told me never to marry a Filipina. The horror stories I've heard can be legendary. |

In short:
She was super jealous. He couldn't even go out without her accusing him of sleeping around. She'd throw a hissy fit and beat up the kids with a garden hose. |

I remember this late 40's/early 50's bloke I met on the train in Korea. He's probably quite well know in the ESL world over here as I think he gives seminars, I forgot his name, anyways he lives for several months in the PI. I asked him if he was married, and he gave me a wry smile, saying "why would I want to do that?"
I think he knew the score over there. It's easier and better just to rent one for a while, not really my scene but many guys are like that. |

I spent a month on Boracay last year its ok for sure. Bohol sounds nice as does Daveo.
How about another option
I've just got back from 3 weeks in Vietnam. The beach was good and damn it was cheap, ridicuously cheap and even though I was in Na Tran for a while the locals were much friendlier, than in the Philippines and even the street venders were ok.
Cebu Air to the Philippines has some good deals though |

| Where's a better place to go with your Korean girlfriend if you just wanna escape the cold Korean winter and see some beaches for a week? The flight costs to Cebu and Manilla are very enticing. However, I lived in Chiang Mai for 8 months so I know I love Thai food and the culture. I never visited a beach while I was in Thailand though. |

If she's like a lot of other Korean's who travel overseas, take her to Boracay because there are Korean Restaurants there |

And make sure to pack pepper paste and cup noodles in her bag.

I've done both countries multiple times and Thailand gets my vote. The Phils is a crowded, poverty stricken hellhole with too many desperate people and the few nice places are difficult to get to and more expensive than Thailand.
Do Thailand first, then the Phils if you're are still curious. That's what I did. |

Check out our trip to Thailand complete with travel info and contact numbers. We loved Thailand, but now that we are dive certified I think our next stop will be the Philippines.

As you can tell by my username, Bohol in Philippines rocks. I highly recommend it.
These days there are cheap flights from Incheon to Cebu. If you need more help, PM me. |
Is it feasible to go to Boracay and Bohol in two weeks (and also spend a night or two in Manila?)
How much are connector flights from Caticlan to Bohol (or nearest airport)?
What is the atmosphere like on Bohol? |
Yes, it certainly is feasible to do both.
Spend 4 days on Boracay, spend 3-4 days getting to Bohol, spend 4 days there and fly home via Manila (or make your manila stop before you head for Boracay so you end your vacation on a high note on the beaches instead of the P-hole that is Manila).
Given that you have 2 weeks you have several options:
Fly Caticlan to Cebu and catch a ferry over to Bohol (takes a day) ($20-50 for the air ticket and $10 for the boat.
Fly Caticlan to Manila to Tagbilaran (Bohol) - takes a day. ($50-100 for the plane)
From Caticlan, take a V-hire down the island ti Iloilo and then hop by boat over to Bacolod on Negros. Work your way across the island to Dumaguete and catch the boat to either Cebu or Bohol. This will take 3-4 days but you will be off the regular tourist path and see some of the real Philippines away from the touts. Just remember to carry your own bag - pack light.
Cost is up to you. Nights in a local pension should run from p500-1000 per night. Boats are cheap (typically p300 or less). V-hires will cost from p100-200 depending on the length of the trip. (average is about p2 per km).

I've done both, though I haven't seen much of either country, and enjoyed Thailand a lot more than the Phillipines. Thailand is more beautiful, the food is better, the people are nicer, its cleaner, the culture is just more interesting, Bangkok is a charming dirty city as to Manila which is just a depressing dirty city.
I'd go to Thailand.
Ko Samui if you a nice resort beach vacation
Ko Phangan if you want to party and stay in a cheaper, backpacker kind of place
Ko Tao if you want to dive
All three islands are close by, and great in their own way. |

I have to disagree. The Phils also has a lot of beautiful places and I've been to both Thailand and the Phils more than three times each (though I'm hardly an expert). I find Filipinos more openly friendly than Thais (who in my opinion are pretty jaded toward farang).
I do agree that Thai culture is more interesting but that's probably because Thailand was never colonized like the Phils was. Thai food also beats Philippine food hands down and Bangkok is a better city than Manila in infrastructure, cleanliness and things to do, but my pick is still the Phils.
I went to Koh Samui in 2002 and it was just okay. Never felt the need to go back whereas I've been to Boracay four times and will go back many more times. |
