Thanks for the additional info Travelnguy and Bohol. You guys have pretty well set my itinerary for me. In 19 days I think i can make it to White Beach back to Cebu and Palawan by air. Sounds like the north of palawan is fantastic.
I always take a snorkel and mask with me( fins are too bulky) and yes, my ticket was pretty cheap, around 240,000 won return. Not rock bottom, I know but I'm happy.
Simple minds, I'm going in December. I'd be glad to share info when I get back. There's an email address in my profile or you can pm me.
BTW The prices look great for Feb on Cebu Pacific. I'm off then so may go back. |

| Hilutungan Island has a protected Marine sanctuary that is nice for diving and snorkeling. It is only a 20-30 minute boat ride from south Mactan Island. We stayed at Cordova Reef (Over priced) and they have a sister property on the Island. 100 peso entrance fee to the reef. 10-30 ft water with a good variety of hard and soft coral. It has a pretty steep drop off where you can also see a lot of predator fish feeding on the reef fish. The reef fish are used to being fed by tourist and can be aggressive but presents good photo opportunites. Ty |

www.pandanisland.com for turtles right off the beach, also clown fish, lion fish etc..an AMAZING place all round. It's a bit of a mission to get there, but it's SO worth it!
If you are going down to Bohol to Alona Beach, I wouldn't really recommend it - rather do a day trip to Balicasag by catching a lift with one of the diving boats at Alona beach - the water there is exceptionally clear - like a fish tank!
But if you're at Alona beach - there is a marine park at the end of the beach that has a steep wall which often has a school of Jacks and some other nice fish...but you will need to dive down to admire it all - it's not shallow at the top of the wall.
Enjoy it! |

Update:Yesterday I bought one way tickets to Puerto Princessa, Palawan for the 20th Dec, about 8 hrs after we arrive in Cebu. We'll probably just wait in the airport. We'll make our way north to ElNido and Coron. If we are enjoying our time and relax enough we may spend the whole 19 days there. If not we'll hit Bohol for a week.
I've read that xmas is very busy with Filipinos returning to their hometowns for the holidays and I've noted that accommodations fill up at other times in the region as well. Maybe I'll have to quit the procrastinating and actually plan a trip, book ahead. Is it always easy to find a room or does it really get full. $20 to 35 range: any thoughts; recommendations? |
