I have literally no idea what you are talking about.

Why does that not surprise me?

Somali waters have been fished illegally by opportunistic trawlers from many countries. Probably yours included. Busy thieving fish and dumping toxic waste.
Its only when the Somali coastguard started fighting back of course... that it made any news.

Proves my point. Nobody owns it. Somalia doesn't have a government to enforce property rights.

Under the law of the sea Somalia has rights extending to 200 NM off it's coast line

I support the Somali coastguard in their efforts to stamp out foreign piracy in their waters.

It would be nice if they would do something about the domestic piracy as well.

How can they be pirates when they are simply taking back what is already theirs?

Its perfectly legal to impound foreign ships unlawfully intruding into your territorial waters.

I don't believe this is happening. Even if it were, is it legal to hold said ships for ransom?

The U.S impounds plenty of foreign vessels entering its waters each year. So do most countries with a coastline. They keep hold of, prosecute, or fine them...depending on the preferences of each individual country.
The Somali authorities generally opt to fine those they arrest. So?

We weren't discussing the Somali authorities. We were talking about private individuals (pirates) who have no authority to do this.

I agree. The international owners of private vessels who are illegally fishing, dumping nuclear waste, and intruding into Somali waters are ...pirates.
