| How the hell does he keep getting hired? |
well, he was hired by a private school, then by a public school, then by two (presumably) private universities, so my guess is they all have different and separate administrative records. Obviously the same school would not re-hire someone they originally fired.
So perhaps we can infer that no teacher info (or feedback if it exists) is shared between teaching institutions.
But the issue in this thread is more about the question of a blacklist being used by recruiters to thin out the numbers of applicants, right? correct me if im wrong.
If that is accurate, then really it would make more sense to look at whether the chap-who-likes-to-drink used more than 1 recruiter listed on the member list of the Korea Foreign Teacher Recruiting Association website, or if he was so bold as to use the same recruiter again in any case.
IF that IS the case (if YES to anything in the above paragraph) we can assume that the recruiters dont refer to any submitted information on the list. Regardless of whether it exists or not, we can at least narrow down why it would. |

Can you please share how you approached the school for the letter of release? I'm coming up on 18 months and want to move along but want to do it in the best way possible. Things have changed at my school after the first year and I think another 6 months would be impossible.
I'm asking because I heard SMOE does not provide these. |

There is no "master" Black List, to my knowledge.
There are simply a number of black lists for each organization.
Does Korean Immigration have a list of people that they won't issue visas for, or people that have been deported and won't be allowed in the country? They must. Just about every country does. Usually these people have done something pretty bad.
I bet each individual school, and each recruiter has a list of people that have burnt them and they won't work with in the future. Do they talk to each other to coordinate? Certainly not. Most of the idiots that spoil it for the good teachers aren't worth that kind of trouble.
Does EPIK or the SMOE, or any of the direct Ministries have lists of people that they won't hire? I'm willing to bet they do.
They don't all coordinate with each other, so, to my knowledge, there is no master list. Yes, I realize that some hagwons have gotten together to create one, and perhaps EPIK and the SMOE talk now that EPIK does their hiring but, all in all, that is far from comprehensive.
Also, to the poster who mentioned his buddy, he is the exception. He has jumped from a variety of different types of schools, but that doesn't mean he can go back to them. His actions may prove that there is no master list, but that doesn't mean that he can walk back into those schools again. It is pretty small country, and eventually, he'll develop a reputation.
The reality is that there are some people in life who seem to get by without having to face the consequences of their actions. Maybe that streak continues, and maybe it doesn't, who knows? |
