Is it just me or I'm noticing a lot more stewards on flights. Recent trips from LAX -> ICN flying on Korean Air, Asiana, and even Philippine Air, I've noticed several stewards on the flights.
Do these men actually apply to become a steward? or are they just placed there by the company to gain experience and eventually moved to other areas.
Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I enjoy having a beautiful stewardess ask me if I need anything. What's going on!!!! |
equal rights for women~ we enjoy looking at something nice too |

Yes - I also only use Singapore airlines - its great service and they really take care of you.
I have had a few stewards on flights from Singapore to Korea. Also a couple of times they have a "Korean" stewardess (to speak Korean to the Korean passengers).. |

| Obviously the level of service is different with Asian carriers, but if we're talking about North American airlines, including Air Canada, I would much, much, much rather have male stewards than the bitter, old, angry flight attendants that work the long haul flights. I'm not denying that it can be a stressful job, but there's no excuse for the consistently terrible service that I get on those airlines. |

| I prefer a stewardess to serve me rather than a steward. It is a personal preference. I love Singapore airlines and am really disappointed if it is not full of "The Singapore Girl" serving me . I love sitting on the aisle seat and watching the stewardesses...it makes for a very pleasureable trip. |

After some of the crabby sea hags they employ on Air Canada, I too wouldn't care if they were male or female. These people shouldn't be compared to waitresses; waitresses have to be nice to people or they get fired, and waitresses are generally underpaid.
In Asia... well, I'm still a man... I'd rather have stewardesses. |

I had a bad experience with a male flight attendant this past summer on my way back to Korea. Actually, our whole section had a bad experience. I wrote NW about it when I got back home; here is the main part of the message:
| Quote: |
| The main part of my complaint is about a flight attendant. He was a relatively young [man] and was the rudest, most unfriendly flight attendant I ever encountered in my more than three decades of flying internationally. He would basically throw items at you, not look at you if he could help it, talk with, at best, irritation in his voice (and usually with scorn and hostility). I tried to cut the guy some slack, as anyone can have a bad day, but he seemed like he really didn'tlike his job, and I truly hope he finds another profession. It wasn't just me, as others on the flight (even in other sections) were talking about him. Near the end of the flight (when you are told to put your seats and tray tables up), he yelled at the young lady seated next to me to put her tray up: it still had meal trash he never picked up. When I pointed that out to him, he yelled at me, "I don't care--put it up!!!" The young lady then took her arm and sweeped the entire contents of the tray onto the floor and put the tray up. |
Afterwards, talking with others, it was suggested he might have actually been an air marshall. It would make a little sense if that was the case (he looked like he could take on a couple guys at once), but passengers shouldn't have to suffer because of it. I'll probably never know.
The airline gave me a bunch of frequent flyer miles; although that wasn't my intent, it did assuage my feelings. |

Why not? It's a catchy song. (Paul Westerberg/Replacements)
She don't wear no pants and she don't wear no tie
Always on the ball, she's always on strike
Struttin' up the aisle, big deal, you get to fly
You ain't nothin' but a waitress in the sky
You ain't nothin' but a waitress in the sky
Paid my fare, don't wanna complain
You get to me, you're always outta champagne
Treat me like a bum, don't wear no tie
'cause you ain't nothin' but a waitress in the sky
You ain't nothin' but a waitress in the sky
And the sign says, "Thank you very much for not smoking"
My own sign says, "I'm sorry, I'm smokin'"
Don't treat me special, don't kiss my ass
Treat me like the way they treat 'em up in first class
Sanitation expert and a maintenance engineer
Garbage man, a janitor and you my dear
A real union flight attendant, my oh my
You ain't nothin' but a waitress in the sky
You ain't nothin' but a waitress in the sky
You ain't nothin' but a waitress in the sky |

| On the flight from Rome, there was a really cute steward there who, at the end of the flight, told me I was beautiful and had gorgeous long straight hair blah blah... then he asked me when I was returning. I didn't think twice... lo and behold, he was on the return flight and at the end of that flight, he asked me to marry him. |

It would have never made it past the airplane bathroom at 1 mile high.
By the way... I wonder what jurisdiction he would have been under in such a situation (given your age)? |

| I know I'll probably get blasted for being PC, but if a man wants a job as a flight attendant why should he be deprived of a job just cause you want something pretty to look at? It's not exactly a new thing either, I've noticed male flight attendants for quite a long time. I like looking at good looking men when I pass construction sites but I'm not thinking "Oh my God, what is the world coming to?", when I see a woman working on one. |

Me neither, because the women working on the construction sites usually look a lot like the men!

as long as I get my damn ginger ale and peanuts.... I could care less if a double genital hermaphrodite transsexual served me.
I've had good experiences with both, and bad experiences with both. Much like our biological differences I think
Women: More caring and sensitive to needs, If I'm sleeping, (with one eye open) she will open my table and leave dinner there.
Man: More direct and fast. I ask for my ginger ale it comes in like 3 seconds. Less emotional but hey I like that.
All in all, as long as it's mixed I feel comfortable. If it were all men though, I'd feel strange |
