I'm very fond of that myself. The part I enjoy most is the very end of the song. |

Why torture yourself? Just hit the fast forward or eject button!
Having said that, I agree Dylan has an awful voice. But he writes great songs. I've seen him in concert. |

One sure-fire way of identifying someone who actually doesn't really get what Dylan does is when they say he's a terrible singer.
He's an amazingly expressive singer who, uniquely in the music business, has been brave enough to change the way he sings on a few occasions.
Is it the gravely coarse texture of his voice? How about Rod Stewart, Tom Waits, Janis Joplin? They have a rougher style than Dylan.....no one puts their voices down....
Anyway, Dylan's voice is masterful and perfect for the music he does.
My fav?
Maybe Sad-eyed Lady of the Lowlands or You're a Big Girl Now or Idiot Wind..........but I could change my mind in 5 minutes.

I was thinking the same thing, and could not have said it any better myself.
One of my favorites is Jokerman.

Yeah well put. Jokerman is a great song and album definatly one of my favourites. I also enjoy a lot of stuff off the bootleg albums but, as a few have put it favourite Dylan songs change often. Good thread though.

I think "one more cup of coffee" is one of his worst songs
"Most of the time" however, great cry self to sleep music.
When he did his Catholic thing, mostly crap too, save "Every grain of sand" - brilliant.
"Oh mercy" may be my favorite album ever. |

I love that song, too. Genuine mix of apathy and melancholy.
But I do also like "Like a Rolling Stone" and "I Shall Be Released" |

I'll trade you Live Minus Zero/No Limit for Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues. I forgot about it. It's a good 'un -- "They got some huuungry women there and they'll really make a mess outta yooouuu."
It IS a bit quixotic to try and name your favorite Dylan song. There's always that other one...
How 'bout best Dylan cover? I've been grooving on Richie Havens' take on Tombstone Blues off the I'm Not There soundtrack lately. |
It's a pretty thankless task to choose just one. I typed in 'Desolation Row' before I decided that at this minute I like 'Tom Thumb's Blues' better. Like others have said, my 'favorite' can change without giving up quality.
Bragging rights: Someone mentioned he'd seen Dylan in concert. I've seen him 4 times. Each time was memorable in its own way. The first time was in '74 when he sang 'Like a Rolling Stone' and aimed it at Nixon in the middle of Watergate. Another time was in '89 in Athens when Van Morrison joined him onstage for a few tunes.
Best cover? Difficult. Really difficult. Maybe Ronstadt's 'I'll Be Your Baby Tonight'. She really brings out the eroticism. But if you want chills to run up and down your spine, listen to Baez's 'Tears of Rage'.

"All along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix, without a doubt, imo.
Yata Boy, I'm not sure if Dylan has even been to Australia 4 times? Perhaps only twice? But yeah, you beat me there. |

As eamo explained so nicely, Dylan is an amazing singer. He adds hooks to his songs just the way his sings the lyrics. If you need a 'nice' voice, good for you. Have fun listening to Top 40 radio.
Lots of great picks here. Can't do a favorite. Here are my favorites:
-Meet Me in the Morning (this one gets stuck in my head and I love it)
-Don't Think Twice, It's Alright (even the title is brilliant)
-Buckets of Rain
Favorite Album:
Blood on the Tracks, but he's got about 4 impeccable albums. |
