I wonder why that is? Nothing to do with the rise in anti Muslim hate groups or the continued hysterical raving of people on forums like this one about how Muslims can't be trusted and are planing on taking over our lands if we don't do something about it soon. |
That 'hysterical raving' as you call it comes as a result of Muslim behaviour and their complete inability to fit into Western society, not the other way around. But of course, Muslim support for Shariah Law, Muslim anti-semitism, and backward religious practices are all the result of 'Islamophobia'. |

| Canada is now segregating schools based on race in Toronto (Afro-centric schools) and Winnipeg (for Natives). We have segregated schools for Jews and Catholics which means the Religion of Peace will get theirs too. We're carving into subsections with government encouragement. There is no such thing as assimilation in our future. |

It's not a particularly convincing article. This seems the only direct reference to children of immigrants;
"There is growing signs that the younger generation of Muslims could be more religious than their parents, say Islamic scholars, given the proliferation of Muslim students associations in high schools and colleges to the kind of Islam the youth prefer to practice."
But it also mentions a few times that the findings have been influenced by 9/11 and the backlash.
"Fallout from the attacks "made them realize they are a vulnerable community," commented Bagby. "It accelerated their desire to become more involved both in their own communities and in America. This is an expansion of what it is to be pious. This process was already in place, but was accelerated by 9/11.""
Religious immigrants who remain a minority under siege probably do become more religious. But if you're arguing that religion itself won't die out in a modern society, how come Western societies have become less religious? |

What is the reason for this Muslim diaspora? Why are they arriving in mushrooming numbers in countries which formerly had few to no Muslims? If it is to escape their horribly repressive home countries, why are they trying to reproduce them in their new destinations?
I left my country because I wanted to experience something different. |

That's a bit of an over simplification don't you think? |

Perhaps, so I'll rephrase:
| Quote: |
| What are the reasons for this Muslim diaspora? |
It is a general, "big picture" question.
Or, how do you see the question as oversimplified, and how would you phrase it? |

| I think the primary motivation for at least a reasonable portion of these immigrants is probably purely economic. They want the prosperity of the West, but the values and culture of their homeland. |

| The Muslims kids in Canada sound like the white kids in Tennessee. It's not as bad here now as it was in the 1980s, now that mixed marriages of different races and religons are becoming mainstream. I think the situation up there will improve over time, but only if the schools are desegregated. |

Because of the Reformation and the Enlightenment and centuries of debate, criticism and indeed bloody conflict. Criticism or outright mockery of Christianity is not really a big deal in Western countries. Islam tends to meet such criticism with violence and suppression because the Koran is the unchanging word of Allah and thus cannot be subject to such nonsense.
But maybe Muslims will become less religious...then again maybe they won't. Quite a gamble to take with social stability don't you think? |
