| I am supposed to get an answer by mid January and I have been told a lot of students that got accepted are straight A students, and that I shouldn't hold my breath for getting a scholarship. |

I received word regarding scholarship award on Dec. 15th. In the letter they stated that the cut-off for the award was a 3.0 GPA. |

I know I pmed you a bunch of questions~ but I was curious about the GPA requirement for the MA program so I thought I would ask here as well,
Do you think it's possible to get accepted with a 2.86 gpa?
Are these taught in English only? I noticed they require a Korean exam on the website. |

To the OP:
Do you have to write your dissertation in English or Korean? Also, what languages are your classes in? |

I don't know what the GPA requirement is to get into the MA program, though I suspect that a 2.86 GPA is too low on its own. With very good references and a few years of relevant job experience though you should be able to get in. You may not qualify for a scholarship immediately, but if your grades in the program are high you might be able to go for a scholarship while you're studying.

Your diss can be written in either language. Classes are mostly in Korean, though quite a few are taught in English as well. All the material used in class, like textbooks, are in English, so even if you don't understand all of the lecture, you'll be able to follow the course by keeping up reading the textbook and you can participate in class through the use of English.
Caveat Emptor: This is second hand info, since I haven't started studying yet. |

Have you thought about other scholarships? My friend is doing her MA on a scholarship based on her grandfather fighting in the Korean war. |

| It seems like you can easily get a scholarship if you are going for a MA in Korea, but you are out of luck if you are trying to get a BA. Which is what I would be going to Korea University for. |

The average entry GPA for undergrad students at Korea U. is 4/4, which may explain why you didn't receive a scholarship. Korea University - Top Universities. Expand the Statistics tab and scroll to the bottom to see the avg. GPA for undergrads.
I suggest going through the NIIED for an alternative shot at studying at Korea U. with a scholarship. Heck, you might even qualify for the W900k a month living expenses stipend. Korea Gov't Scholarship Program. It's the same for 2010. |
