Good points, Moldy Man.
1) Ask fellow ex-pats. I've travelled extensively throughout Asia, as well as 4 other continents, and would be happy to give advice on the places I've been.
2) Just wing it. The first time I went to Cambodia, I did ZERO research on the place - had a blast! |

Winging it is the way to go. My guess is that you're most worried about a place to stay.
Don't worry if you don't have a pre-arranged place to stay, there will always... and mean always... "friendly" people at a station/airport to take you to a place. If you don't like the place, most likely there will be another one next door. |

It is possible to download them. Just google "lonely planet torrent" you can find a single torrent with something like 200 pdf files of guides, zipped up into a neat little package.
Just print out the relevant pages, and you're good to go.
At least, that's what a friend told me.  |
